Warzone players given new lifesaving mission – Check Your Nuts, in new campaign for Movember via Rumble Strategic Creative
A new men’s health campaign from Rumble Strategic Creative in support of Movember, is turning downtime in Call of Duty: Warzone into potentially lifesaving action, with one clear message for young men: check your nuts.
The Lifesaving Lobby is an innovative approach to raising awareness of testicular cancer among young men – the most common cancer for men aged 15 to 35. It saw a crack squad of gamers infiltrate Warzone servers with one goal: to encourage testicular self-checks.
Launched covertly in April during Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, the team went into Warzone matches under pseudonyms such as Unusual Lump, Aching Boys, Odd Nodule and The Pain Below – gamer tags that alluded to common symptoms of the disease which will affect around 960 young Aussie men this year.
The idea was conceived by Rumble creative director and longtime gamer, Rhys Venning.
Says Venning: “Testicular cancer is one of most treatable cancers if caught early, usually via a quick self-check. However, guys don’t often think about their health, especially down there.”
It’s not uncommon for Warzone players to commit hours to each gaming session but also experience extended downtime in pre-match lobbies.
Adds Venning: “We knew where a chunk of this group would be and when they would have a couple of minutes to spare for their pair. We just needed to connect with them in a way they couldn’t ignore – like a filthy headshot from few hundred metres, or having your entire squad wiped by a single player.”
The campaign was executed in support of men’s health charity Movember, with players driven to the organisation’s Know Thy Nuts education hub: https://au.movember.com/men-s-health/testicular-cancer
The campaign has been picked up by publications and channels including Blunt Magazine, Player2, and Call of Duty Dispatch. Spreading the word seems particularly timely during International Men’s Health Week, June 9 – 15.
