Walkers Sandwich campaign scores nomination at D&AD for Euro RSCG Sydney ECD Steve Coll
AMV BBDO London’s Walkers Sandwich campaign, which has just scored a Nomination at D&AD, was co-created by Steve Coll (left), now ECD at Euro RSCG, Sydney.
The campaign saw celebrities including Pamela Anderson, Frank Lampard and Jensen Button descend on the tiny English town of Sandwich to prove ‘Any Sandwich is more exciting with Walkers’.
The resulting campaign sold 15 million packets of Walkers crisps and has netted AMV a steady stream of awards, including a Gold Lion at Cannes last year.
The campaign was supported with a week-long burst of TV. And, despite the relatively low TV spend, Neilsen rated Sandwich as one of the most recalled campaigns in the UK that month.
In the two weeks after the campaign broke, they released 24 separate films online, posted regularly on their celebrity’s Facebook and twitter pages, and continually updated the Sandwich YouTube channel.
The Walkers team used the Sandwich campaign to persuade Britain’s major retailers to support their brand in-store. For the first time, Walker’s crisps moved to the sandwich aisles of major supermarkets and the resulting tie-ins delivered close to an extra 15 million packs sold.
