Virgin Australia launches new ‘VA-X & Win’ competition and campaign via The Precinct
Virgin Australia has launched its VA-X & WIN competition with a brand-new marketing campaign via The Precinct, that appeals to the millions of Australians who are missing the feeling of flying.
The campaign features two Virgin Australia passengers who unsuccessfully try to achieve the joys of travel from the comfort of their own homes using household furniture. From a treadmill in place of an airport travelator, to a recliner chair to mimic the in-flight experience, the passengers quickly realise that nothing can replace the real flying feeling. Time then quickly fast forwards and the passengers are finally reunited with their old lives and the real Virgin Australia flying experience once borders have re-opened.
The videos will be housed on Virgin Australia social media channels before being aired on the 7 Network during the broadcast of the AFL Grand Final on 25 September 2021.
Virgin Australia Group chief marketing officer, Libby Minogue said the airline was reminding Australians of the joy and excitement of travelling, in a bid to encourage Australians to roll up their sleeves: “This campaign really captures the Virgin flair we are known for. It’s quirky and fun, and it taps into exactly how our passengers are feeling. We all can’t wait to experience the feeling of flying again.
“Virgin Australia understands the vital role vaccinations play in protecting the lives and livelihoods of all Australians and returning to the things we all love, including travelling. This campaign will motivate more people to roll up their sleeve and get the jab so we can be reunited with the freedoms we had in our pre-COVID lives.
Virgin Australia has partnered with The Precinct to create the two 15-second TVCs.
The Precinct creative director, Michelle Galluzzo said they hope the campaign will help boost vaccination rates so we can all get back in the air and enjoy life’s simple pleasures again: “While vaccination is a serious matter, we were excited by the opportunity to have some fun with this campaign while putting a smile on people’s faces at a time when they need it most.”
First announced in June, Virgin Australia’s VA-X & Win competition is open to all fully vaccinated Australians who are 18 and over.
With a total of 251 prizes on offer, valued at more than $150,000, Australians who have played their part in keeping the community safe and re-opening the country, will be able to enter VA-X & Win through a simple entry process at virginaustralia.com/vaxandwin. Entry is open until 31 December 2021*.
One of the major prizes will make one lucky Australian a Velocity Frequent Flyer Points millionaire.
As part of the competition, Virgin Australia will also open a promotion for fully vaccinated employees who get the jab before 15 November 2021. Incentives include a holiday to Hamilton Island, additional annual leave, Business Class flights and Lounge memberships.

You can hear it now, “Let’s put a guy in a Hawaiian shirt and white socks in sandals, it’ll be so funny!” Unfortunately it’s daggy af. Will this brand ever get back its cool rather than tool?

I don’t hate these. And even if it shows, at least Virgin aren’t spending our taxes on their ads like Qantas.

How can I vaccinate myself so I never have to hear the word ‘jab’ again?
If my taxes go on making ads as good as the new Qantas one, I’m happy.
Terrible. We all need a laugh, or a cry these days. This falls somewhere, but nowhere in between.
