EnsaimadArt_FROST_Artwork.jpgVince Frost, founder and CEO of internationally recognised brand and design studio Frost* has been invited to join a ‘Who’s Who’ of international luminaries from the art and design world, to contribute to a high-profile European charitable initiative aimed at creating opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

Majorca-based publishing house Infolio have enlisted the talents of some of the world’s most recognisable creatives, to create bespoke artwork for the distinctive hexagonal packaging of the quintessentially Majorcan sweet pastry delicacy known as an ‘ensaimada’. Well-known Spanish designers, Astrid Stavro and Pablo Martín, have launched the EnsaimadArt project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Amadip.esment charity. The project will raise funds for the not-for-profit organisation, with all profits from the sale of the limited edition pastries contributing to programs to help improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Globally renowned artists, architects, designers, photographers, illustrators and chefs will be designing labels for the octagonal boxes that ensaimadas are sold in, and workers at Amadip.esment will make the ensaimadas, baking them in their own ovens, printing the stickers in their printing studios, and manually affixing them to the ensaimada boxes.

Frost will join high-profile participants including Wim Crouwel, Paul Sahre, Michael Bierut, Harry Pearce, Andrzej Klimowski, Margaret Calvert, Javier Mariscal, A Practice For Everyday Life, Nick Bell, James Goggin, Marion Deuchars, Julia Hasting, Fraser Muggerdige, David Pearson, Jeff Fisher, Zak Kyes, Sara De Bondt, Jordi Labanda, George Hardie, Pierre Bernard, Mike Dempsey, Henrik Kubel, Alan Kitching, Morag Myerscough, Patrick Thomas, Fernando Gutiérrez, Sonya Dyakova and three-star Michelin chef Carme Ruscalleda, amongst many others.

The creative brief to contributors asks them to be guided by a reflection about the contemporary world and their role as creators and professionals of the image. They were also tasked with creating something about positivity that will make people smile. Frost, who worked with Benjamin Hennessey on the piece, said the studio’s design, which references pop-cultural phenomenon Princess Leia, whose iconic coiled hair buns echo the shape of the pastries themselves, aims to do just that.

Says Frost: “Nothing makes people across the galaxy smile more than a Star Wars reference. May the ensaimada be with you.”

Each artwork will be presented to the public at an opening ceremony in October in Palma, Spain, and the designs will be displayed in a travelling exhibition.
