VANDAL and Alt.vfx among Australia’s strongest contenders at the finalist stage of AEAF 2024

Internationally acclaimed Animation and Effects Awards Festival (AEAF) has announced its finalists across a broad range of categories, celebrating the industry’s best VFX, animation, motion, post-production and new media work from around the globe.

 

VANDAL has picked up 11 finalist nominations which included work for Foxtel Hubbl, Lendlease, VIVID, Powershop, Matildas and Koala to name a few. The projects selected were from a wide range of categories including Commercials Animation, Commercials VFX, Live Event Installation & Projections, Education and Infographics and Short Films, mirroring VANDAL’s full-service capabilities in creative, production, design, VFX, animation, experiential, new media and generative ai.

The announcement also saw Alt.vfx, MPC, Rising Sun Pictures, Never Sit Still, Ample Projects and Collider secure multiple finalist positions. International studios included Framestore, MPC and Weta FX.

Says Emile Rademeyer, executive director, creative strategy at VANDAL: “The AEAF acknowledged the increasing number of submissions they receive each year, highlighting the festival’s growing prestige on the international stage. In the midst of strong global competition, Australian companies have made a remarkable dent, with many earning well-deserved recognition.”

The AEAF noted the ever growing range of impressive techniques showcased across this year’s entries. Traditional methods are being expanded upon and pushed to new heights, with advancements in motion capture and keyframing, simulated and procedural effects, and the use of rear projection, 3D matte painting, and LED screens. From green screen keying and 2D/3D compositing in post-production to in-camera VFX, the evolution is evident.

Notably, this year saw further integration of real-time processes and the growing influence of AI-supported techniques, marking an exciting new chapter in the industry.

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners are set to be announced at the AEAF Online Screening on the 11th of October 2024.
