Unsafe drinking water kills 8 million a year

Check out this amazing outdoor water concept for Solidarite, from BDDP & Fils, Paris. Surely a Gold Cannes Outdoor Lions contender, if not the Grand Prix.

Now that’s a bit better than the new Stand Arcade promotion. Exactly the sort of work that should be on this site. Inspiring.

Brilliant. Thanks for posting.

It’s clear, 3.17pm , you’ve never been or will ever be a judge at any sort of creative awards. Just watch this pick up.
That is fucking awesome.
I’m jealous twice over.
Firstly for the idea, and secondly for the fact they obviously had a TVC-sized budget to shoot their entry video.
Oh, 3.17pm: you’re clueless. Frighteningly so.
NIKE chalk bot.
with water.

Sorry – done. I had this idea at award school a few years back. Can post scamps if you want proof.
Cheers,
Nuthead
I liked it in 2006 too.

Surely you can’t win gold for sticking a logo on something. Can you???
Oops, already done in Japan in 2008 by, of all things, a shopping centre…

Appropriated someone else’s idea though. This is years old.

Call me cynical, but…
How will one installation do anything?
Why are the words in English, when this is supposed to have taken place in Paris?
If they can afford to spend the money the making of video obviously cost, why isn’t the installation more massive?
Paris has the Arc de Triomphe just around the corner from where this was shot. Why not use that?
Why no crowds?
And given this is just projecting type against water, how much cooler would it have been if they’d used really powerful projectors in a rain storm? So the words go above the whole city.
So, for me, it’s a scam. And not a very good one.
Yes I saw it before in Japan myself. But it delivered a powerful message in an advertising context in a continent that hadn’t seen it before.
Top marks I’m afraid.
At least when Droga5 Sydney did the VB ‘Shhh’ ads they got the idea from an American comedy writer and credited him with the idea by getting him to ‘co-write’ the ads.
This, however, is just artistic theft. Shame on you, BDDP & Fils, shame.
101% execution.
-1% idea.
9.44 PM – Yes, you are cynical.. but you’re also stupid. It’s not ‘projected onto water’.. the water itself makes the shapes. Look at it again.
Get off youtube you twats and stop trying to be the cool guy that knew about something first.
This water dropping installation is a medium, not an idea. Saying this has been done before is like saying a print ad has been done before because it’s in a magazine.
Advertising… what a joke of an industry.
11.26PM – Charity work, and the importance of the message, does not excuse stealing ideas. For the record, this work has been in Europe before, including the Saatchi gallery:

Neck up – I love you. Finally an intelligent comment.

“Why are the words in English, when this is supposed to have taken place in Paris?”
You may just find that most Frogs speak English as well as their native tongue. Thus using English as the language also opens it up to those in English-speaking nations outside of France. (Which may or may not have been a genuine concern considering this video was obviously intended to be seen by a lot of people outside France.)
Neck Up:
‘The medium is the message’ – McLuhan.
‘In works of true genius, idea and execution are indistinguishable’. – some advertising ‘guru’ (I forget who).
The fountain is a classic example of an idea and execution coming together seemlessly. Sadly, both have been borrowed/inspired/stolen.
Keep up the good work, youtube researchers.
So Gary Horner and Rowan Dean should never have used a skit from a comedy show to make their famous and highly awarded Hamlet commercial? Come on, the talent is in making a great connection between an idea and a client. It’s been done lots of times and is a legit way of cracking a brief. Films, comedy programs, paintings and even ideas with water are all up for grabs as possible influences.
1:43 – You are absolutely right. In the absence of an original idea or execution (or, heaven forbid, both), there is skill in making a connection between a pre-existing idea and your brand.
In this case, linking a water fountain and the issue of unsafe drinking water is hardly an inspired or difficult connection.
To all the haters,
What if you’d made this leap and got it happening?
Yeah, you’d probably be weeping and defending it at 6:34pm on a Saturday night.
Done anything lately?
