The positive production people Poppet continues to champion change with new work + initiatives
After a successful inaugural year, Poppet, known as “the positive production people”, has continued to exceed expectations and establish itself as a progressive, exciting force within the industry as showcased by its projects throughout 2024.
Led by production trailblazer Nat Taylor (pictured above) of MADC and The Aunties, Poppet’s recent initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to infusing positivity and wellbeing into every facet of its work—whether through collaboration with diverse creators and communities, the subject matter it tackles, or its sustainable practices. Guided by the core belief that “happy people make great work,” Poppet continues to elevate the production landscape through innovative campaigns and programs that foster growth and positive impact.
“We are incredibly proud of the impact we are making within the production industry,” says Taylor. “I believe that when people are given a safe space to explore, we uncover something incredible in all of us. My goal for Poppet is to create positive change in how shoots are run, to build a place where we look after each other, support one another on set, and nurture those moments in between. Our commitment to positive production is not just about creating great work; it’s about fostering an environment where creativity thrives, and real change happens within our community.”
Last month, Poppet proudly announced its collaboration with the Department of Education and Assemble Agency on the “Teach the Future” campaign, one of Poppet’s most significant projects to date. This state-wide recruitment initiative aims to attract more teachers to Victorian Government schools by highlighting various incentives, including scholarships and financial support for placements in regional areas, to inspire individuals to pursue teaching careers. The campaign showcases the work of award-winning director Lizzy Bailey, alongside esteemed creative director Paul Hermes.
Poppet has proudly collaborated with several top-tier brands over the past year, crafted through diverse talent and their positive workplace, including:
● Cancer Council Victoria: Poppet partnered with Cancer Council Victoria to create an impactful campaign advocating for Gifts in Wills. This initiative encouraged individuals to consider leaving a lasting legacy by including a donation in their will, thereby supporting Cancer Council’s critical work in cancer research, treatment, prevention, and patient care. Through compelling storytelling, the campaign highlights how these contributions can make a profound difference, funding advancements that improve survival rates and quality of life for those affected by cancer.
● The Dept of Home Affairs: In partnership with the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs, Poppet developed a confidential campaign aimed at providing vital support to at-risk and underrepresented communities. This initiative focuses on raising awareness and delivering resources tailored to the unique challenges faced by these groups, underscoring Poppet’s commitment to making a meaningful impact through thoughtful and inclusive storytelling.
● Ukraine Documentary: Poppet is currently developing a documentary that delves into the extraordinary resilience of everyday people in Ukraine as they stand firm against the Russian war machine. Through personal stories and on-the- ground perspectives, the project aims to illuminate the strength, courage, and determination of Ukrainian citizens navigating life amid relentless adversity. By sharing these compelling narratives, the documentary seeks to refocus Australian public awareness on Ukraine, fostering deeper empathy and rallying support for its people as they endure this prolonged conflict.
Poppet’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of creative professionals is ingrained in the core essence of the business. The company takes pride in its unwavering focus on supporting newcomers to the industry, championing the work of young directors, producers, and crew by offering opportunities to develop their skills and advance their careers.
An advocate for positive production across all spaces, Taylor is also the Co-Founder of The Aunties, an initiative that supports, protects, and champions women and gender-diverse people in the creative industries. In a recent collaboration with Women’s Health Victoria (WHV), The Aunties launched Support Talk, an innovative online training program—the first of its kind—designed to equip mentors with the skills to respond effectively to disclosures of gender-based violence and discrimination. Taylor served as a leader on this project and as the face of the training videos, advancing her mission to empower everyone within the industry.
