The Pool Collective’s Ingvar Kenne launches fifth monograph ‘The Ball’ tomorrow Thurs, Mar 28

Award-winning portrait photographer Ingvar Kenne is celebrating the release of his latest monograph, The Ball, which launches tomorrow, Thursday 28th March from 6pm-9pm.

The photobook is comprised of a collection of images documenting Bachelor & Spinster Balls captured over two years across Australia. Printed by Narayana Press in a Danish monastery, published by Sweden powerhouse, Journal, and featuring a foreword by Australian author Tim Winton; this unflinchingly honest account of what takes place within Australia’s B&S Balls will now be available to its Sydney audience.

Says Kenne: “For me personally, I am curious and the camera helps me investigate that curiosity. There is no way I would be at a Ball without a camera. It is my shield and equally my invitation to be curious. I am an outsider because of it, yet fully emerged in what is taking place.”

The one night only event will take place across two levels on Crown Street with doors open from 6pm. The evening will feature a book signing with the artist, music by FBI radio DJ Jack Shit, a silent auction for Landcare Australia and refreshments will kindly be provided by Hawke’s Brewing Co.

“Chaos. Chaos presented with grace. The Ball is a portrait of humans as animals, in formal attire, shredding as the night rolls through.” – The Heavy Collective

“The pattern of confusion and disorder shown in Kenne’s photographs suggest a youthful hedonism where chaos becomes both a representation and a metaphor for living only in the now with an intensity that suggests that life is forever and that neither yesterday or tomorrow matter.” – L’oeil de la Photographie

Kenne’s work has been exhibited internationally including in England, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Croatia, USA and Australia. In 2009 he was awarded the National Portrait Prize at NPG in Canberra and was recognised by the prestigious Moran Photographic Prize the same year. Kenne’s solo show, Citizen, opened at the National Portrait Gallery in conjunction with a book launch, making it his third published portrait monograph. It has since toured five capital cities in Australia.

Ingvar Kenne is a member of The POOL COLLECTIVE, a pool of interdisciplinary creative resources that link vision to expression across all mediums.
