The Communications Council unveils new identity
The Communications Council today unveiled the new industry body’s brand identity, including a striking new logo that presents the Council as the new “voice” for the communications industry.
The logo and identity were created by Sydney design studio Toko inresponse to a collaborative brief provided by representatives of theCouncil’s founding members – the Advertising Federation of Australia(Anthony Freedman), the Australasian Writers and Art DirectorsAssociation (Richard Maddocks) and the Account Planning Group (JeremyNicholas).
“The new identity reflects the many and variedindustry voices that The Communications Council will represent, whilstcapturing the core principle of creativity that binds us all together.
We also wanted to ensure the identity, like our industry, struck theright balance of professionalism and playfulness.” said Chairman,Anthony Freedman.
The core logo for the Communications Council has been designed as a speech bubble in the
shape of the letter “C”. A suite of different colours has been developed to illustrate the breadth
of the organization, with a nod to the diversity of personalities included under one brand.
“Designing an identity that is creative, forward looking, interesting, and intriguing, whilst at the
same time able to garner respect in company boardrooms and in Canberra was a tough
challenge. The various elements of the new look form a graphic representation as diverse as its
members, constantly evolving, clearly representing the Council’s fresh and exciting intentions.”
said Deputy Chairman of the Council, Richard Maddocks.
Following the establishment of The Communications Council and the design of the new identity,
AWARD and the APG will retain their own identities – given the strength of those brands within
the industry. They will continue on as stand-alone identities, under the overarching
Communications Council brand.
The Council officially comes into existence on January 1, 2010.

what a mouthful! seems ironic for a communications council.
C for ”
Should be re-named the alliteration council
Should have read:
Communications Council’s curves of a cute core crest (created in collaboration), conceals a complicated contention of creativity and connection in commerce.
That is five points short of fucking awesome.
Let this be a reminder of what happens when you get a committee involved.
Did an art director design that or a designer?
Really awful corporate id. Shameful.
I’ve searched all the parks in all the cities and found no statues of committees.
Here’s one, 2:07 –

Hiding behind “Anonymous” is so easy isn’t it???
That’s a relief, not a statue.
Speach buble ? Fail.
Mt Rushmore?
It’s a first hack at a council that probably is not too sure of it’s goals. I’m sure the name will change and the logo when they know what the mandate is. Much better to all be together when lobbying govt. We are useless working with industry and govt as a bunch of tiny powerless groups.
what a ‘c you next tuesday’ of a logo
Do my AWARD contributions from here in NZ go towards lobbying the Australian government on behalf of Australian advertising folk?
The Mount Rushmore Monument is a group of US Presidents that ruled individually. Sorry, not a committee.
2:47… the committee of the new world order.
Agree with earlier comment. The result of a commitee. Why didn’t they get someone like frost to do something. When you’re launching something as big as this you need to be professional. Sorry but this is cheap and nasty rubbish. What a joke!

I’m sure they could have got another c-word in that title if they tried.
Can’t condemn the creator – the concept is quite clever.
Agree ‘C’!
Amazing how people (above) can judge a whole identity based on one low-res image… there must be a lot of frustrated creatives out there or very skilled for that matter able to judge by surface…
Talking professional; unless I am very wrong Toko won the Hotshop awards this year leaving Frost behind….
More c-words please!
