The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard launches Seabay via Whybin\TBWA Melbourne + Eleven
Whybin\TBWA Melbourne and Eleven have launched Seabay – a new campaign for the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard in partnership with eBay.
Aimed at raising vital funds for the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, Seabay allows Aussies to bid on items recovered by Coast Guard volunteers and equipment used on actual rescues.
There’s a range of items up for auction, from a single flip-flop to a 24ft rescue vessel and even a broken surfboard signed by Kelly Slater and top Aussie surfer Stephanie Gilmour.
Seabay is set up to be an ongoing fundraising platform to help keep the 100% volunteer-run organisation afloat.
Says Ashwin Gopal, creative director, Whybin\TBWA Melbourne: “Projects like Seabay show the power of a good partnership. It gave us a unique opportunity to collaborate with eBay and use their hugely successful platform to help the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard.”
Says Ray Campbell, national commodore, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard: “The Seabay initiative will not only raise awareness of the Coast Guard but will generate the much needed donations that allow us to keep saving lives. With every item on Seabay, people have a chance to own something with a truly unique story.”
To surf through the online emporium of items and place your bid for an important cause head to seabay.net.au.

i quite like it though
crap on ebay. Great. Half a surfboard.
rubbish
An unoriginal, saw about 20 award school students with the same idea
That list of credits screams “we’re just doing this for some trophies”.
Whybin and Cummins battle it out for the corniest lines and who can best use ideas from award school
Oh yeah- all of my friends are talking about it and eagerly buying stuff on this authentic site that has existed for quite a while and will doubtless work its proverbial socks off on behalf of whoever the fuck it’s on behalf of.
Seriously? Even if it was for Clean Up Australia, which would make more sense, it would still be really lame.
Well don’t Hannah, Matt and Ashwin. Love your work.
Awesome idea guys and nice execution. Go Hannah! F#ck the haters.
I like it.
By Gosh, these bitter old men are right! this idea is so sh*t. All they did was use their existing resources in a new way and create a sustainable donation model with zero running costs. Fu*king in my day, we preferred to do the same old sh*t – these idiots didn’t even do a print ad. Gather round fellow old men and let us circle jerk ourselves.
