Telstra Next G – the ‘Brad and Emma’ saga to continue in new campaign via BWM Sydney
Telstra is set to launch the second phase of its Next G Network ‘Works Better in More Places’ campaign this Friday September 11, with two new TV commercials demonstrating the capabilities of Australia’s fastest national mobile broadband network.
The campaign, created by BWM Sydney, offers a continuation of the ‘Brad and Emma’ saga from the initial 2008 TV commercials that were successful in demonstrating the coverage benefits of the Next G Network. While the characters have not changed, the new commercials focus on Telstra being one of the fastest national mobile broadband networks in the world, and the application benefits of a superior mobile network for a metro-based audience.
Says Amanda Johnston-Pell, executive director of Telstra’s Brands &Marketing Communications Group: “The two new commercials – entitledSocial Networking and Emails – each work off a different, commonscenario within which a faster network would be advantageous to theuser.
“Fast access to large email and social networking sites have becomecritical to customers. We wanted to demonstrate this by creatingdifferent situations within which our subject, Emma, clearly benefitsfrom being connected through the Telstra’s Next G network; and, moreimportantly, situations that our metro audience can relate to.”
Says Rob Belgiovane, BWM executive creative director: “The Brad andEmma story has been very successful in communicating Telstra’s networkbenefits in an appealing and meaningful way for our audience”.
The TVCs will launch nationally from this Friday, 11 Septemberalongside a revamped Next G website. The campaign is further supportedby a heavyweight outdoor component as well as cinema, sponsorship andretail activity.

Funny, they don’t link to the ads.
I bet they’re great.
I hear it was graded over at Efilm in Lane Cove, apparently they are now booking commercials……..?
love the music in the laptop ad.
I’ve been waiting for the next Brad and Emma saga like a rabid dog with baited breath.
Love them both.
Nice slice of life ads that don’t try too hard.
I’m not sure where it was graded and don’t really care. But the grade is flat and lacks contrast. The skin tones are all washed out. (except for the green skin product) As you watch the group of ads before and after this one, you can see a massive, not a slight, change in the difference of the grade itself. I’m sure there is a ‘real life’ or ‘down and dirty’ term that ‘post grade justifies’ it.
The ad itself is very funny. A good campaign that has progressed well from the 1st “can’t connect to my mapping” into a watchable series with great humour and likeable characters that Anon4:52 has overstated with the rabid dog theory.
I hate ads that and have tiresome colour grading. Not funny.
Saw ‘Mask’ again last night.
Good talent. Nice direction. Have no idea what it is saying.
Ahh, who cares. It’s a nice ‘piece’!!!
I hate when people leave comments without reading what they have written first.
I like the ads, they are a good follow up to the original. They pull off some relatable humor without trying too hard.
Would have been rather budget friendly too.
Emmas a babe
I love the actor who plays Emma. She’s great. Bit of a cutie, too.
Emma is a babe, but since she is such a cow, Brad should take a photo of her in the shower and send it to all his friends.
Brad needs to purchase an Optus handset then ditch Telstra and Emma. I feel sorry for Brad…he can do better. Emma never will!!
I’ve been trying to locate a copy of the commercial using this couple going into a lift and Brad wanting to make a purchase on eBay but he misses out due to his dodgy connection. Can anyone help?
