Telstra introduces Colin the Cuckoo in quirky new campaign via +61 and Bear Meets Eagle On Fire

Telstra has launched a charmingly offbeat new social campaign ‘App O’Clock’, created in collaboration with +61 and Bear Meets Eagle On Fire. The campaign introduces Aussies to an unlikely star – a grumpy cuckoo named Colin with oversized shoes and even bigger opinions.

The campaign is made up of a series of playful, short-form spots that feature Colin providing a running commentary full of dry wit and deadpan delivery.

The films were brought to life in 3D by director Laurie Rowan through Nexus Studios, whose distinct animation style blends CG with stop-motion and puppetry influences. Using a replacement method for Colin’s mouth and eyes, Rowan crafted a rich spectrum of micro-expressions to amplify the character’s personality and comedic timing.

Says Rowan: “Colin feels real to me, and despite his self-importance and uncharitable outlook, I still find myself drawn to him and his lovely little shoes. I hope others feel the same.”
