TasWater asks Tasmanians to ‘Save Our Thing’ in new water conservation campaign via Showpony

Tasmania is famous for its water. Whether it’s for recreation, agriculture, hydropower or making world beating gins and whiskys, water really is Tasmania’s thing. And it seems to be everywhere.

But it’s not. Even in Tasmania there is a need to conserve water and so TasWater has launched a new campaign with Showpony Hobart to communicate the need to be careful with Tasmania’s most precious of natural resources.

Says Callan Paske, head of communications and engagement, TasWater: “There is a belief in Tasmania that we have plenty of water available, but this couldn’t be further from the truth; Hobart is the second driest capital city in the country.”

Tasmanians are some of the highest water users in the country and the state’s population also grows significantly over summer, with more tourists visiting the state.

The campaign is designed to drive awareness that it’s important to use water wisely, inspiring people with water saving tips and things they didn’t know about Tasmanian water.

TasWater has an engaged community of water lovers whose sense of pride in their state shines through and the campaign is designed to tap into this pride and empower the community to drive real behaviour change.

The creative features the same cast from previous TasWater campaigns.

Says Nic Maumill, creative director, Showpony: “It was fun getting the band back together, so to speak. It also helped sell our message of ‘save our thing’ to have a familiar group who introduced ‘water, it’s Tasmania’s thing’ in the first place as we know from research how effective the first campaign was.”

Says Claudia Steven, general manager, Showpony Hobart: “They say not to work with children or animals, but thankfully both Elke and Teddy the dog made our lives easy. Elke is an absolute star!”

The Save Our Thing campaign airs on TV, radio and online throughout summer.
