W. Henzell_MedRes.jpgTable Tennis Australia has announced South Korean carmaker Hyundai’s re-commitment as title sponsor of the Bennelong Cup to be held in Sydney in October this year.

As part of the agreement, the Hyundai Motor Company Australia will continue its involvement in a participation project within the Bennelong area to supply table tennis equipment to every school in the area. In addition, Hyundai will have extensive signage opportunities throughout the event.

Says Oliver Mann, general manager, marketing at Hyundai Motor Company Australia: “Hyundai Motor Company Australia was thrilled for the opportunity to give back to the community by supplying Table Tennis equipment to local schools around our head office. We think that Table Tennis is a great way to get young people involved in sports and, who knows, there may even be some future champions in the Bennelong region.”

Now in its second year, the event will see a selection of Australia’s finest table tennis players – set to include the likes of 2012 Olympian William Henzell (pictured) and Miao Miao – play against some of the most exciting talent the Asian continent has to offer. The organisers of the Hyundai Bennelong Cup 2012 have invited Korean professional men’s team Korean Ginseng and Chinese professional women’s team Shandong Luneng to play Australia this year to ensure Bennelong’s three largest cultural groups are engaged in this exciting competition.

Says Peter Marriott, chief executive office of Table Tennis Australia: “We are delighted to be partnering with an international brand that has the prestige of Hyundai for this year’s Bennelong Cup. Hyundai has, and continues to, support table tennis at grass roots level in Sydney’s suburbs and we look forward to working with them in the months leading up to the event.

“We have already secured two private sponsors for the event but we are still on the lookout for the right brands and sponsors to partner with us for these unique exhibition Test matches in Sydney.”

Says John Alexander MP, patron of the Hyundai Bennelong Cup: “Table Tennis is providing the bridge within our community to engage students of all cultures, just as it is allowing Australia’s two great friends China and Korea to come together.”

The Test Match series will be held at the Ryde Community and Sports Centre on the 19-20 October.
