venue 2.jpgSydney photographic collective Pool will tonight be bypassing the traditional gallery set-up and taking over Fleet Steps in the Royal Botanic Gardens for their invite only launch of Blow Up.

It is a mix of moving image, digital media and photographic art, inspired by the content of their inaugural publication by the same name.

sean izzard.jpgBlow Up’ is the first collective publication by Pool. Taking the form of a 51cm x 66cm magazine. Each of the five artists at Pool, Sean Izzard, Simon Harsent, Danny Eastwood, Christopher Ireland and Ingvar Kenne, have developed a new series of images specifically for this project. It’s a showcase of the dissimilar perspectives and common ideals of an artistic collective.

It was created in collaboration with Maud .

simon harsent.jpgThe design concept is based upon incorporating the idea of a collective of artists into the physical structure of the publication. Thus, it exists as a complete, sequential publication which then separates into five distinct books that can be pulled apart as and when the mood strikes.

Tonight’s invite only event launch will feature music from FBi Radio’s DJ Jack Shit, food by the high priestess of Malaysian cooking, Jackie M, and has been made possible with the kind cooperation of event sponsors, Canon, Emergent Designs, Tiger Beer, Kilikanoon wines, Johnnie Walker and Schweppes.
