Supercheap Auto goes full throttle in 70s inspired Best Performing Oils campaign via Taxi Film Production and Chimera Project
Supercheap Auto has once again raised the bar with its much-loved Best Performing Oils (BPO) campaign created by Chimera Project and Taxi Film Production, returning bigger, bolder and more nostalgic than ever. In its most ambitious creative direction yet, the brand launched Redline Squad, a high-octane 1970s cop show parody featuring adrenaline-fuelled stunts, muscle cars, outrageous wigs and an all-star cast.
Now in its eleventh consecutive year, the highly anticipated BPO campaign continues to celebrate the best in automotive performance. This year audiences were transported back in time with a full-blown retro transformation of Kyogle, Northern NSW, into a 1970s streetscape – complete with period-correct vehicles, costume flair and explosive action sequences.
Redline Squad brings together a turbocharged roster of talent, including appearances from fan favourites The Inspired Unemployed, Grant Denyer, The Mighty Car Mods, Craig Lowndes and more. The result? A content-rich experience that thrilled audiences both online and on the ground.

With concept and creative via Chimera Project, the production was led by Taxi Film Production for the fifth year running, with Senior Producer Imogen Dick at the helm. Directed by Miles Murphy and shot by Director of Photography Adam Clarke, the three-day shoot brought together multiple camera units and precision stunt crews to deliver a cinematic homage to 1970s car culture and action TV.
“This year’s BPO campaign was all about going bigger while staying true to what our fans love—cars, comedy, and chaos. The response has been incredible,” says Andre Korte, General Manager, Marketing & eCommerce at Supercheap Auto. “Viewership and engagement were well above expectations, and it’s been amazing to see how much the audience loved the Redline Squad twist.”

Chimera Project Executive Creative Directors Brendan Greaney and Jonathan Drapes said they were thrilled to once again be part of this year’s Best Performing Oils campaign.
“Motor oil is about reliability and longevity. In fact, the brands that matter today are the same brands that Aussies and Kiwis have trusted for decades,” they said. “This year we wanted to tell that story by going waaay back to the 70s where it all began.”
Since launch, Redline Squad has garnered over 1.2 million views across multiple platforms.

The campaign was also warmly embraced by the Kyogle community, with regional collaboration and local support adding a layer of authenticity and charm to the production.
Supercheap Auto’s Best Performing Oils campaign proudly featured top brands including Castrol, Nulon, Penrite, Valvoline and Mobil, with Ryco and K&N further cementing its authority and influence within the automotive category.
