Subaru Outback builds on its popular ‘Made for Australiana’ campaign with new spot via Disciple
Disciple has released a follow-up to the popular Subaru Outback “Made for Australiana”
TV commercial, again created in collaboration with comedy legends Billy Birmingham and Austen Tayshus.
The clever, pun-laden piece continues the story of an Outback – loving Aussie family trying to organise their annual holiday road trip and deciding who to invite and who to dump.
Once again, the commercial is a homage to the classic 1983 comedy hit ‘Australiana’ which was written by Billy Birmingham, and the dialogue ingeniously weaves together famous Australian place names, flora, fauna and iconography into another funny, laconic and uniquely Australian story.
Says Tim Brown, creative partner at Disciple: “The first ‘Made for Australiana’ commercial has been a big hit, driving unprecedented interest in the new Outback. The campaign breaks the mould of automotive advertising, delivers a strong product message and makes you laugh. We think the follow-up is even better.”
The commercial was directed by Patrick Hughes from Finch, with additional content directed by Pete Buckley and Alex Gabbott.
The soundtrack was written and produced by Billy Birmingham and engineered by Brad Power at Stellar Studios.

How original,
You guys are really digging back into the 80’s now.
This is timeless (and relevant) Aussie humour used to great effect for Subaru Outback. The punters obviously love it, which is more important than what ad creatives think.
When I buy a new car I want it to at least feel modern in some way.
I don’t want to fork out that much cash for a 1982 model – know what I mean?
Did someone knock that together on their iPhone using iMovie?
What a steaming pile of poo.
