Stranger Films merges with Spry Films to redefine capabilities with a two-tiered production offering across online and TVC

Award-winning production company Stranger Films has joined forces with Spry Films to create a strategic two-tier production powerhouse, addressing industry demand for both premium commercial excellence and agile digital content creation.

Having recently delivered the international launch of Isuzu’s D-MAX EV, Spry Films continues handling full-service production for agencies and major brands requiring large-scale commercial campaigns. Complimenting this, Stranger Films becomes their nimble alternative for online, branded, and documentary content where innovation and agility are paramount.

Says Tony Walsh, Co-Founder of Stranger Films, who steps into the role of Creative Director across both companies: “We’ve spent years perfecting agile and emotive storytelling at Stranger Films. Now we get to supercharge that expertise alongside Spry’s premium production capabilities, and keep our creative DNA.”

Stranger Films and its disruptive, digital-first thinking has been proven with recent accolades including Bronze at the Cairns Crocodiles Awards, a B&T Award for Best Use of Social Media, and finalist at the 2025 TikTok Awards for its campaign with 1House for Great Northern, starring Aunty Donna’s Broden Kelly.

Adding significant production expertise to the mix, Spry Films has welcomed Senior Producer Clint Gough to its team. With an impressive portfolio spanning major TVC campaigns for Super Cheap Auto, The Lott, UFC and Subway, Gough brings the kind of production gravitas that makes bold ideas a reality.

Says Genevieve Larin, Co-Founder and Senior Producer of Stranger Films, who transitions to Managing Director for the two companies: “What excites me most is that we’re not losing our identity, we’re amplifying it. Stranger Films has always been a brand that stood for bold creative, cathartic storytelling and challenged traditional production practices. We know that film production isn’t made in a vacuum, with the shifting digital landscape we want to provide an offering that meets clients’ ever changing needs. With Spry Films we now have a production offering that can handle anything from fast-turnaround digital content to large-format storytelling and do it with craft and purpose.”

The strategic beauty of this partnership lies in its reflexivity; While Spry handles the premium, agency-driven campaigns, Stranger can pivot fast for brands needing innovative content that connects with people amidst the digital noise.

The partnership tackles a fundamental shift in the industry, with a 2024 report revealing digital advertising now dominates 73% of Australia’s marketing spend, reaffirming the need for both premium brand-building content and agile performance assets.

Rather than trying to be everything to everyone, Spry Films and Stranger Films’ partnership is tailored to delivering excellence without compromise at every level.
