Spotlight on Women Creatives: Sinead Roarty, associate creative director, J Walter Thompson
As part of a daily series Campaign Brief shines the spotlight on the top female executive creative directors and creative directors in Australia…
Sinead Roarty is associate creative director of J Walter Thompson, Sydney.
Sinead writes ads by day and bedtime stories at night. As a teenager she spent her holidays at Marxist summer school, while her friends were letting loose at all-night raves (okay, maybe she slipped a few in).
That goes some way towards explaining why she’s fixated on working with brands that believe in doing social good – and finding compelling reasons to convince those brands that don’t why they should.
Her work has won over 50 awards, including 10 Cannes Lions, D&AD, Clio, One Show, New York Festivals, Spikes Asia and London International Awards. She has Chaired and served on local and international award juries, is sought after as a speaker and conference presenter and was an AWARD School lecturer.
She also pens fiction, essays and art reviews while undertaking a PhD in Creative Arts. Her short fiction has been published internationally, including in ‘Best Australian Stories’, and was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. She is currently working on her first novel and co-editing a collection of essays for Oxford: Interdisciplinary Press.
