As part of a daily series Campaign Brief shines the spotlight on the top female executive creative directors and creative directors in Australia…
Jess Lilley is a creative director at Leo Burnett Melbourne, joining in March this year from J Walter Thompson, Melbourne, where she was a CD for over two years.
From Jess Lilley’s LinkedIn page: As a creative and creative director I’ve been developing integrated campaigns for brands across a range of sectors and media. I’ve been doing this pretty solidly since 2000 – when I was listening to a lot of big riffs and working for peanuts in the independent music industry.
But as fate would have it, I took a one-off freelance copywriting gig ‘to make ends meet’ and thus began a globetrotting journey revelling in the pirateship-like camaraderie, inventiveness, occasional weirdness and always team spiritedness of creative departments in cities near and far. (I’m not sure all of those things are actual words… one of the great things about this job is making stuff up.)
Other great things include collaborating with really smart people to create things far more impressive than my own brain alone could have imagined, helping the young’uns bring their own ideas to fruition, and always learning and adapting to new media and new technologies.
Throughout I’ve continued to balance work with personal creative projects across public radio, photography, film and theatre.
