A new way to listen to music, Spotify gives users instant, on-demand access to more than 16 million tracks on their computer, mobile phone, iPad and beyond, so they can enjoy music whenever and wherever they like.

Spotify offers three levels of service, from absolutely free to two subscription tiers.

The hugely popular free service is advertising-supported and in Australia, launch partners include Commonwealth Bank, CUB, Fairfax Media’s websites Daily Life and TheVine, McDonald’s, ninemsn and Virgin Mobile who will be launching innovative campaigns in partnership with Spotify in the coming weeks and months.

Audio and digital formats – the powerful combination of audio advertising synchronised with the real-time action of digital creates unbeatable call-to-action campaigns.

Open APIs – create campaigns that centre on the Spotify catalogue, like a consumer choosing a song to help generate a branded playlist. With our open API these campaigns can even sit on a brand’s website or Facebook page.

The Spotify lightbox – enables the use of rich media content that can be updated in real time and shown within the Spotify platform. For example, this can include video, audio, competitions, or publishing a Twitter feed.

Advertiser page – ‘own’ a space that integrates with the Spotify platform giving you the opportunity to create longer campaigns with ongoing content generation.

When Spotify users share advertiser-supported content, such as a branded playlist, this naturally creates a viral effect for advertising campaigns.

Target who you want, when you want where you want; if you know who you want to talk to, Spotify lets you target them. Brands can reach the consumers who matter most to them, whoever or wherever they are.

Spotify Managing Director Australia and New Zealand Kate Vale said: “Spotify offers advertisers a highly engaged, passionate, and socially active audience who are doing the thing they love the most – listening to music. Pairing audio with visual advertising is not only one of the most powerful forms of marketing online, it’s also a unique new addition to the Australian advertising market.”

Spotify was launched in Sweden in 2008 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, out of a desire to develop a better, more convenient and legal alternative to music piracy. The service now has more than 10 million active users and more than three million paying subscribers across the world, with Australia becoming the 14th market.

Spotify offers three great services, from absolutely free to paid subscriptions:
