Sovereign Hill launches cinematic ‘The Story Lives On’ campaign via Fiction + Town Square
Sovereign Hill has unveiled a suite of cinematic spots as part of a new ‘The Story Lives On’ campaign. Directed by Fiction’s Natalie Erika James and produced by Emma Haarburger the spots were brought to life from the stunning creative by CD Brendan Day and creative team Duncan Le Cornu & Benny Moore at Town Square.
The major tourist attraction has taken a decidedly modern route with a series of short films and trailers that show dramatic scenarios of people who would have inhabited the goldfields in 1850s Australia.
‘The Nugget’ follows a female prospector who fears losing her newfound fortune, ‘The Struggle’ touches on events surrounding the Eureka Stockade, while ‘The Bounty’, is a playful piece following children on a chase around town. The campaign also includes a 30 second trailer that showcases all three short films.
Agency producer Anna Morris and Fiction producer Emma Haarburger worked closely to wrangle the challenging logistics of filming within the operational museum.
Says James: “It was an absolute dream working at Sovereign Hill. The team wrangled pretty much all the chaotic, challenging elements you’re not supposed to combine on this shoot – children, animals, carriages, pyrotechnics, historical accuracy, we had it all! Showcasing the incredible sets and costumes to build a narrative was amazing; sheer joy as a director.”
James and Haarburger continue to work within the commercial world while developing their long form projects. Their previous short, Creswick premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and has gone on to screen at 20+ festivals worldwide. The pair were recently awarded funding for their next short film, Drum Wave, through Screen Australia’s competitive Hot Shots Plus program.
