Sophie Sykes and Alexandra Nel join 72andSunny Sydney’s leadership team as CEO Ross Berthinussen departs agency after six years

72andSunny Sydney has appointed Sophie Sykes (above left) as Managing Director and Alexandra Nel (centre) as Executive Strategy Director, as CEO Ross Berthinussen (right) returns to the UK after six years with the agency.
Sykes joins from Howatson+Company, where she was Client Partner, while Nel was previously head of strategy at Telstra’s in-house agency +61.
The appointments come during a period of growth for the agency, which has recently secured new business from Big W, AFL, Cadillac, and Princess Cruises. The agency also recently appointed Wez Hawes as Chief Creative Officer, expanded its creative department, and relocated to a larger studio space in The Rocks.
Both Sykes and Nel will report to 72andSunny international President Chris Kay and international Executive Strategy Director Maria Galleriu.
Under Berthinussen’s leadership, the agency was recognised as . Berthinussen, who initially joined 72andSunny as Executive Strategy Director in early 2019, will spend the next 12 months in the UK training to be a coach, with a focus on conscious leadership. Prior to joining 72andSunny, Berthinussen was head of strategy at M&C Saatchi Sydney before opening M&C-backed strategic and creative consultancy Ugly in 2016.
