Social impact creative agency Carbon Creative opens new Sydney office to meet growing demand

Award winning, independent social impact creative agency Carbon Creative has opened its Sydney office to meet its growing demand and expanding portfolio in purposeful brands wanting to tell their impact story.

After recently winning a competitive pitch with Australia’s leading certified sustainable and organic flour milling company, New South Wales based, Wholegrain Milling Co to craft a new brand identity, tell their sustainability story and measure their impact, Carbon Creative cemented its long term plans to open its doors in Sydney in August.

Carbon Creative first opened its doors in Brisbane in 2006 with a focus on producing TV for the likes of Sesame Street, ABC, SBS and NITV before pivoting to advertising and communications in 2016 working with a mix of government, corporates and not-for-profits on high profile social impact campaigns such as the Federal Government’s national COVID-19 campaign, Help Stop the Spread and domestic and family violence campaign, Stop it at the Start, amongst many others. Becoming a certified B Corp in 2024, Carbon Creative has crystallised its strategy working with likeminded changemakers, to be better for people and planet.

“Our expansion into Sydney makes more sense than ever as our work in creating purposeful brands and telling their authentic stories whether through advertising, PR or impact measurement, across social and environmental issues grows. Consumers, particularly Gen Y (72%) and Z (685), proudly purchase based on their identity and values. But don’t be tempted to greenwash them. They want facts not fiction. Honesty, transparency and real impact and that’s what Carbon is helping brands deliver”, says Carbon’s Executive Strategy Director, Rebecca Blinco.

Pioneering brands like Wholegrain Milling Co, the first in Australia to achieve a Certified Sustainable classification, want help educating bakers and consumers in the incredible offering that comes with sustainable flours.

Wholegrain Milling Co’s Sustainability and Market Development Manager, Ash Truscott says: “While we’re well known for our consistently high quality products and service with our artisan bakers and distributors, our sustainability story is still on the rise. Sustainability is a word that’s banded about but not often understood or even believed. Having been the first flour mill to be Certified Sustainable, we owe it to our farmers, our bakers and bread lovers to tell this exciting story just right. Choosing Carbon Creative was an easy decision as we’re both values aligned, outcomes focussed and committed changemakers. They know how to make a complex story cleverly simple for business, brand and consumer.”

Not its first foray into retail brands, Carbon Creative has taken out a string of awards including a global Anthem Award and an Australian Good Design Award, for its brand design and production of tarkiner indoor plant food, sold exclusively at Bunnings as part of a joint venture, with Seasol in 2024. More than just a bottle of kelp, tarkiner, a community brand, is driving social impact for the Aboriginal community from where it originates, the Tarkine in lutruwita, (Tasmania).

Says Carbon Creative’s owner and Managing Director, Wayne Denning: “Bringing the tarkiner brand to life, was (and still is) as much about it standing out on the shelf, as it was, about it standing up for community. It’s about bigger picture outcomes and that’s what we’re bringing to Sydney and beyond.”
