SMAC winner Adam Kiers joins Playground

Adam Kiers, who recently took home Best Director at Sydney’s SMAC Awards for his stunning work on Ngaiire’s ‘Closer’, has joined Playground.

Having worked with some of Australia’s premier artists – Guy Sebastian, G-Flip, Boy George and Delta Goodrem – displaying achingly poignant emotional depth in work for artist No Mono, Kiers’ design-focused narratives distill imperatives into a celebration of movement, light and the individual.

Says Nick Garner, producer at Playground: “Music, the urgency of choreography and colour pulse through Adam’s work. It’s refreshing to see these stories, and a singular aesthetic sensibility, play out with such assured direction. We’re beyond excited to be working with Adam.”

In-house directing at Channel 9, then in Ten’s creative department, honed skills that have been rewarded globally for work on the Bachelorette, The Voice and Ninja Warrior. This free-to-air experience gave Kiers the foundation to sharpen his vision, turning next to the celebrated short “The Hateful Date” and a string of striking clips for a batch of Australian musical talents.

Adds Kiers: “There’s been some amazing work recently, innovating across all manner of long and short form, work that wouldn’t have seen the light of day a few years ago. I believe this work is born from relationships, those that make room for risk and time for the long chats. I’m looking forward to being part of a team that wants to take the time to understand the vision of a project, and that I admire and respect.”
