Simon Thomas immediately replaced by Eyvonne Carfora and Wilf Sweetland as Co-Presidents of MADC alongside Matt Lawson
Effective immediately, with Simon Thomas only being out of the role for less than an hour, loved and respected titans of Melbourne advertising, Eyvonne Carfora and Wilf Sweetland step into the role of co-presidents, forming a triumvirate with current President Matt Lawson.
Says Matt Lawson, remaining Co-President of the MADC: “To be honest, I got lonely. And in that half hour when Simon was gone the work just kept piling up. I know I said there was no one who could replace him, but to be fair, I didn’t lie. So, stepping into Simon’s giant shoes are two of the best in the business – loved and respected across Melbourne, and well beyond. And I’m not trying to make Simon jealous when I say this, but we all felt an immediate connection and we’re already extremely happy. We’re actually going away together in the holidays. Off to Daylesford. Should be pretty cute actually.
“To have Eyvonne, who was the MADC treasurer, step up into the president’s role is a real coup for the MADC, as with her comes a wealth of knowledge, and a knowledge of wealth. Eyvonne also brings an unbridled passion for Melbourne and the MADC that will see us in good stead for years to come. You can already tell Eyvonne is not the sort of president to just leave you hanging, alone, crying for the sort of support and comfort you once thought eternal. And sweet, sweet, Wilf Sweetland. To have Wilf agree to also take the reigns as the third president, or as the french would say, trésident, is incredible. Both run top tier production companies, are universally liked across this fair state, and I have to assume, country, and are raring to take the MADC into a new era.”
Says Eyvonne Carfora, in-coming Trésident of the MADC: “What a ride! Working alongside Matt, Simo, and the committee for the past two years has been an absolute highlight. I’m pumped to be partnering with Wilf and make 2026 an unforgettable year for the Melbourne community!”
Says Wilf Sweetland, the third president in the triumvirate: “I am beyond honoured to serve as Co-Tresident for the MADC – an Australian institution that I have had the utmost respect for, over a long period. During the last five years Matt and Simo have got it absolutely charging and it is great to be able to contribute to this legacy.”
