SHERPA introduces two exciting new female directors at Melbourne picnic party

In celebration of two new signings, Melbourne production company SHERPA hosted a party for some of its favourite collaborators late last week.

The picturesque picnic was a great opportunity to introduce Amber Mealing and Marie Pangaud, two fresh and distinct female directors in the Melbourne creative scene.

Says Nat Taylor (above left), executive producer at SHERPA: “It was such a joyous occasion to be able to get together with so many wonderful industry pals, share a laugh and finally revel in the genuine delight it is to see people in person again.”

Guests were introduced to Mealing and discovered her passion for storytelling and aesthetics, which flourished whilst working in art departments across New York.

Now back in Melbourne, she is poised to deliver her dramatic style and unique ability to tell diverse stories. Mealing has a focus on honest and creative representations of marginalised groups on screen.

Says Mealing (below, centre): “It’s absolutely thrilling to be joining a group of like-minded creatives. SHERPA is making a huge effort in creating space for female and marginalized voices through every stage of production, and I am so excited to be a part of that. The male-dominated tables are turning in Australia’s advertising industry, and it makes me excited to be paired with a company at the forefront of that change.”

SHERPA is also thrilled to introduce Marie Pangaud (above right), who started her film making journey in Paris. Pangaud favours an authentic documentarist’s approach, working intimately with brands to highlight their sustainable and ethical approaches.

Pangaud is currently completing her first assignment for SHERPA shooting with Joost Bakker, the ‘eco-trailblazer’ for Mercedes-Benz, an exciting project set to go live in a couple of weeks.

Says Pangaud: “I am humbled and excited to join the SHERPA family, alongside a roster of such talented individuals. The Joost Bakker shoot for Mercedes was a blast, and I can’t wait to get the camera rolling again.”

Says Taylor: “As a founding member of ‘The Aunties’ I am deeply passionate about celebrating and elevating female voices and vision in our business. Both of these incredible women are powerhouses of creativity in drastically different ways.

“A woman’s voice can be a thousand things and I’m delighted the first project we have Marie directing is for a luxury car brand. Female directors should have an equal place at the table alongside their male counterparts and I hope we see a lot more of that in 2022.”
