Serbian Film Festival gets on a roll with new integrated campaign via Colman Rasic, Sydney
Sydney agency, Colman Rasic has created a new advertising campaign for the 2011 Serbian Film Festival. The festival was established in 2001 with Hoyts screening a selection of unique films for Australian audiences. Now in its 11th year, the event opens nationally in October, with screenings in Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.
The ‘Watch films. Not formulas’ idea forms part of a cinema, online and poster campaign that will run nationally.
Says Tanja Drazic, head of marketing for the Serbian Film Festival: “Our aim this year was to expand our audience, to reach out with a fresh voice. We needed to do this in a way that also acknowledges the uniqueness of Serbian films.”
Dejan Rasic, ECD of Colman Rasic adds: “We identified a simple truth about the films at this festival, they’re different to the cliché storylines you find in most mainstream cinema. It’s been a really fun project to be part of.”

Really like it although I can’t say i’ve ever heard of the serbian film festival, especially as they say it’s in its 11th year. What are the films about if they’re not ‘formulas’?
Normally I’m OK with jokes about pretty much anything. But I do draw the line at genocide gags.
Isn’t that first one the formula Serbia used against the Bosnians?
Ah. Rasic. That explains it.
Serbia has a long way to go before anyone but Serbians would ever want to watch their films. Accepting responsibility for war crimes would be a start.
@Jen Auside
Like Australia accepted responsibility for the genocide against the aboriginals, right?
That’s the same idea as the Patts ad that got in-book at D&AD. Think the line was “Free yourself from the formula”

‘Free yourself from the formula’.
Another huge campaign for a huge client from colman rasic.
They use the word ‘formula’ in the line but very different ads.
WOW Jen, who is the dumbass.
Kevin apologised for the systematic government policy of the stolen generation. The act of taking children unlawfully from parents and placing them into institutions.
This apology has NOTHING to do with the systematic slaughter of the Australian indigenous people all over the country including Australia’s most expensive war effort ever in the Black Line covering all of Tasmania.
I am ever grateful for the day our PM acknowledged it’s mistakes in taking away their children, but NEVER for one second assume they took responsibility for the deaths of thousands of indigenous men and women.
The Australian Government, (both sides) has much to answer for and it begins with better education.
Especially in Australian history.
I agree 10:07, Australia have a long way to go with the indigenous population. So please don’t come on here saying that a simple apology solves everything because it doesn’t and never will.
mysterious setup + more mysterious activity x out of place context + tagline/gagline + quirky music up = forulaic
The Patts version is much better.
I laughed at the romantic comedy one. Good truth.
I prefer Serbian version. Funnier
This strategy is getting tired.
So the cinema ad is someone drawing one of the print ads? That took a lot of thinking.
I’m sure it’s going the pack them in.
Call me old fashioned, but an ad that’s running in a cinema trying to persuade people to watch Serbian movies might be served better with some actual footage of the movies they’re showing.
Maybe not. Ever seen a Serbian movie?
Yeah the last one I saw won a Palm D’Or at Cannes actually.
Kevin’s comments show a country that’s willing to accept its culpability – despite the long passage of time. You need to listen to the speech. He talks of harmful policies in general as well as to the stolen generations. It’s certainly a more concrete step towards reconciliation than, say, governments and whole communities hiding war criminals. We know and accept our dark past. Perhaps it is too soon to expect Serbia to do the same.
Please ad industry, STOP WAISTING SO MUCH TIME MAKING ALL YOUR AWARD ENTRIES FOR FILM FESTIVALS OR WRITERS FESTIVALS!!!!!!!!
It just embracing.
@Jen O-Cide you are not very bright at all are you?

Judging by your amusing attempt at spelling, grammar and the fact that you seem to like writing in all caps, I rather think a writer’s festival might be something you should look into as a matter of some urgency.

Some of the worst spelling and grammar I’ve seen on the blog for quite some time… you’re either all art directors or Serbians…
