Sean Cummins set to launch another ad venture – to be announced next Friday November 26
Sean Cummins is gearing up to return to the advertising industry next Friday with a new venture representing ‘The New Advertising’.
Cummins’ statement to CB on the matter is brief: “On Friday November 26th, I will be announcing a new venture. Whilst it will signal my return to the advertising industry it will be more exciting for the style of business and the calibre of people with whom I will be partnering. It’s not about a new advertising agency, it’s about what I hope is ‘The New Advertising.”
He’s been taking a break from the industry since last October when he quit SapientNitro, the agency he co-founded as Cummins & Partners in 1997 and subsequently sold.
The idea of Cummins returning to the industry was flagged back in February.

Let the shitstorm commence.
The second Cummins.
Cummins back at ya.
Cummins again.
Does this mean he will update his headshot? The circa 1998 shot leads to such disappointment in person.
Call the agency Adzombie, cause you just wont die!
Cummins in your face again.
About time.Sounds Interesting
‘The New Advertising’.
Is that something along the lines of The Emperor’s New Clothes?
I have decided to resist the temptation to comment on this story.
Cummins, cummins, cummins, cummins, cummins chameleon….
Cummins to make the ad game awesomeness again.
Another Cummins and Goings
Cummins as you are
The New Advertising – what a sterling idea…..
‘Cummins and goings’ to cause a tectonic shift! Industry should be worried.
On that basis Clam @11:57, you’d call it Cockroach. Works so well, and in a number of ways!
11:34, you know not what you speak. Ever heard of ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’?
Please call it Second Cummins. Please?
Really? Man, ride off into the sunset. There is nothing for you here.
Good on you Sean.
Congratulations Sean! š You’ve done it once before, I’m sure you can do it again!!
He’s the Derryn Hinch of the advertising industry.
A human headline that somehow seems to be successful even though when you look at his actual work it’s not that brilliant.
Quite fascinating.
“the calibre of people with whom I will be partnering….”
Should past partners and employees who helped make his last business a sucess be offended by this statment?
I wonder……
Success breeds success. He’s fostered the careers of some stellar creatives in Australia and abroad.
Good to see you back. Best of luck Sean.
Derryn Hinch never recorded famous snippets of radio shows, played them on his show and claimed them as his own. Best Job in the World comes to mind.
Another agency, another $22 000 000…
Good on ya!
Good work Sean, tear em a new one.
Cheers,
Jay
About bloody time! Bring back the real aussie adman!
too much talk at the mo not enough action. the industry needs a shake up and a strong dose of ‘realness’. So all you jealous types who slander the man who helped put us on the global map – you may not love him but clients and former staff do! And that’s what count$
Heaps of creative awards, heaps of Agency of the Year Awards, heaps of cash from selling a national network of agencies and an AFL Premiership in 2008. Most could only wish for that type of success.
My grandmother will be pleased.
Fantastic. So we can look forward to more ‘world class’ work like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE-XIBe_KP8
And he wrote these scripts…so there’s no one else to take the ‘credit’.
Howcroft Sampson & Cummins.
Seriously.
‘thanks and congrats’ from Buddy, Junior Boy, Roughie, Clarko, Hodgee, Murph and Mitch.
I feel embarrassed for all of those cynical, jealous, negative and angry people who’ve made snide remarks and dissed someone they probably haven’t even met!
Shame on you. All of you. Get a life, a bridge and laid… š
To know him IS to diss him, 3:11.
Just look at all the careers this guy has created a platform for. He’s always had an eye for talent and known how to develop them (head games and all). One is now ECD of Clems Melbourne, another is ECD of GPY&R Melbourne and oh look another one has taken a CD gig at Ogilvy Sydney. This guy is Australia’s Don Draper. Clients love his ass, he’s single handedly built a $20m plus agency which he has now pocketed. He opened cummins in brisbane and hired the right people (they went on to write the most awarded ad campaign in advertising history (globally). He’s back in because it’s in his blood. And just watch what happens to the old cummins. They will be torn a new asshole and have it served to them on a plate. I would. The truth is he probably wouldnt even try. Clients will naturally flock to him. The people you should be hating on are people like Chris Clarke and sapient nitro that have no talent and rip country wide agencies from underneath them. Go Sean, rip this scared timid (and mostly annonymous) industry apart mate.
2.49. You’re a sad little fuck aren’t you? Get off youtube and go do something. Anything.
Love him or hate him, he’s a great character. And truth be told they’re a dying breed in this industry. I also admire him for sticking with advertising- he doesn’t need to work at all, let alone in an industry that just isn’t what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. I genuinely hope he does do something different.
I guarantee – 2/3 of the favorable comments here will have been written by the man himself and 2/3 of the unfavorable ones will have been written by former employees.
Good Luck Sean and his team! I know you’ll create an amazing agency…again!

We can all tell when it’s you.
Pretty sad you’ve got nothing better to do at nearly 10 o’clock on a Sunday night.
Good luck with the new venture, but then again you’ve probably already had all your luck. Bound to run out some time, it always does.

So Sean won an AFL premiership in 2008?
I know he has a reputation for taking credit for others work, but this would be stretching it even by the great man’s standards.
What an I talking about, of course it was Sean’s idea to push Dew forward in the 3rd quarter. And I have always said Hodge wasn’t B.O.G. clearly it was SC.
No, 9:30, whatever else one might say about the bloke, and he’s pissed a lot of people off, he’s a better writer than that. And he wouldn’t mis-spell Anonymous.
The industry hasn’t been the same without Sean in the mix. Let’s face it, he’ll create ground-breaking campaigns and will blow competitors out of the water. Maybe it’s worth criticising with caution – you may just find yourself trying to worrm your way into his agency!
Anyone who has actually worked with Sean knows he is the best in the business. His success really does speak for itself and I hope he takes the industry by storm – again!
9.30… It’s 9.47 ‘am’. So it’s just a job to you, that’s cool. I get it. You’re married and have a kid and a mortgage. Ad agencies are just there to feed your existence for minimal return on your behalf. When did you quit trying? And who are you blaming for that? Not yourself surely?
Some people read the blog on a Sunday because there busy doing what they love during the week.
Hopefully Sean will don the leather pants again, that’s what the industry has been missing.
This is exactly what we need right now in a sluggish and unrepentant ad climate. Congratulations to you and your team, Mr. Cummins. You’re a legend to us (and you have great teeth).
I totally wasted this comment on BandT(!)… obviously ’tis here where all the ‘important’ gasbagging happens.
9:30, you really are an idiot. An illiterate idiot.
This blog is testament to the Tall Poppy Syndrome which is sadly entrenched in the Australian work ethic.
Good on you for scaring these little people out of their wits Mr C, Iām proud of you.
