School Strike 4 Climate gives kids permission to take a sick day for a sick planet via CHEP
School Strike 4 Climate (SS4C), the largest youth-led climate organisation in Australia, is holding a nationwide protest this Friday, 17 November. To encourage as many school-aged kids as possible to skip classes on the day and make their voices heard, SS4C has created The Climate Doctor’s Certificate via creative agency CHEP.
It’s a sick note signed by a different kind of doctor: prominent climate PHDs including doctor David Karoly, councillor on the Climate Council of Australia and professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne and doctor Nick Abel, honorary associate professor at ANU College of Science.
They’re climate doctors who understand the importance of protesting for the planet. And who don’t believe students should be punished for attending as they have been in previous years.
Says Joey Thompson (16), School Strike 4 Climate spokesperson: “As we hurtle towards a summer of dangerous heat waves, the federal Labor government is failing young people by approving new coal and gas projects. They are just pouring more fuel on the fire.
“We need to take action to make sure our voices are heard and continue to fight for a fossil fuel free future, instead of empty promises and continued degradation of our planet’s health. Download your own Climate Doctor’s certificate, head down to the rally and make your voice count.”
Adds Dr. Karoly: “This fight is the most important one that we’ll fight in this lifetime or next. We’ve left a mess for the younger generations, and we all need to do our part to support them in ensuring there’s hope in the future that lies ahead of them. That’s why I’ve put my name down as a signatory of the Climate Doctor’s certificate, and why I’ll be side-by-side with these incredible students on the 17th of November.”

This will make a lot of parents to happy
I hope CHEP parents have to take a day’s Leave to look after their kids at home.
Or will CHEP give employees with kids an extra day’s Leave to stay home and care for them?
C’mon CHEP. Let’s see you put your money where your mouth is.
Either that or Grow-up!
Looks like you went on school strike a few too many times yourself.
I left at 14 after bullying. Managed to get buy as an Art Director. Your comments bring it all back.
At least once a year at school the fake kids would confidently state that they were sitting in the oval to protest some social wrong. Most other kids wouldn’t care, the teachers really didn’t care, and the broader community definitely didn’t care… yet the fake kids still thought they were doing something profound. This is that but with a lot more money being wasted.
Yeah the real kids were in the bushes punching cones.
… AnD we’D MoVe It To tHe LIbrArY !
This looks like a free idea from an Award School student. The quote from the agency in the release is great too “_____ “.
It’s this sort of hot air that’s really threatening our existence
Blatantly scam work.
Just get on and do some real paying work.
There are timesheets to fill out.
This is really good – I see the CB jealousy is out already though…
I agree Glen
I realise this is a Cannes entry unfolding before our eyes. And well done on getting the SMH to pick it up.
But that aside, wouldn’t it be more useful to encourage clever kids to stay in school and find a solution instead of waving placards to the converted?
Given the ineffectiveness of everything tried so far by the establishment, a worldwide competition to uncover completely different thinking with a big cash prize and a guarantee of consideration would be an attempt.
lol fake kids, as opposed to real kids.
THE REAL ONES WHO KEPT IT REAL YKNOW DAWG?!?!?
JUST OUT HERE KEEPIN’ IT REAL 4 YA!
Ok Boomer
Looking around the average school ground or bedroom and I don’t think sustainability is much more than a feel good buzzword to most teenagers.
If protesting worked we wouldn’t have a problem. How about putting that student effort into something useful?
Following the loss of Telstra the staff at CHEP have a lot of time on their hands.
CB boomers with Land Rovers yet to clock that school kids actually care deeply about this shit.
Just what the world needs right now, less education.
We’re seeing school attendance plummet to record lows across the country. Also, weaponising education for an award much?
Jesus CHEP,are you all so out of touch with the industry that you think this stuff will really impress award judges ,let alone actually impact on society.
Grow up.
No, they don’t. It’s only the virtue signalling brainwashed that believe this.
And I hope they all get fined for non-attendance.
Why kids? This would make more sense if it was a mid-level puppet taking a sickie from their bullshit corporate job, or even more effective would be to target this to existential fossil fuel employees. Kids boycotting the education system that is pro-climate change is just dumb.
How did this even get out of the agency? Its embarrassingly bad at a creative level and hugely naive at a commercial level.
Sure – go and make it and make an impact yeah?
I don’t like this because woke.
Love it! The haters can burn down with the world.
This stinks of an agency desperately trying to be relevant but completely missing the mark.
Not even AWARD School standard.More like a high school project.
You legend you.
I hope every moron who commented here saw the recent D&AD results. Well done CHEP. Simply brilliant.
