RSPCA ‘Animal Walk’ digitally remastered
To celebrate RSPCA Awareness Week 2009 (Oct 1 – 8) the RSPCA has released a digitally re-mastered version of their most loved commercial – Animal Walk, which has started appearing on TV screens.
Created 21 years ago by Leonardi & Curtis, Melbourne, Animal Walk won MADC Commercial of the Year in 1988. It was the first brand ad of its kind in Australia and remains one of the most recognised commercials ever made in this country. The production not only introduced Australians to their favourite little bandaged wombat but it was actually responsible for coining the RSPCAs slogan: For all creatures great and small. The wombat went on to become the RSPCAs mascot.
Digitally re-mastering Animal Walk was a huge job and was done free of charge for the RSPCA. The RSPCA thanks their long time supporters Enigma Communications as well as The Lab in Sydney and Original Works for bringing this project to fruition.
RSPCA hopes that by re-releasing Animal Walk it will rekindle some fond memories in their longtime supporters and appeal to whole new generation of animal lovers.

Respect to Leonardi & Curtis for a great ad, but they couldn’t be credited with coming up with the line.
All Things Bright and Beautiful
The text was written in Minehead in 1848 by Cecil F. Alexander in the village of Dunster, and may have been inspired by a verse from S. T. Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner – “He prayeth best, who loveth best; All things great and small; For the dear God who loveth us; He made and loveth all.”
Chorus
1. All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
It was a shit ad then, and it’s a shit ad now.
Yeah, 11.06, but they did come up with the idea of using it for the RSPCA
I thought Sean Cummins wrote it?
Worked on my Grandma back then, works on my parents now.
They’re probably the main donors for these guys anyway.
I think you’ll find the writer was Cesare.
Sean did write the ad – i just asked him about it

How could you not like that ad?
I can guarantee if that aired tonight, my little girls would force me to donate the contents of my wallet to the RSPCA. My coldheartedness would stand no chance against that little bandaged wombat.
Comment 11:33am: Are you doing time for serial killings?
11:33 you are clueless.
Love the ad and the cause.
Hi folks,
I am thrilled that this commercial has been remastered. And I congratulate the agency and all those involved in lovingly restoring it. (I wouldnt mind be lovingly restored myself).
The spot won Best of Show at MADC in 1988
The RSPCA “Trap” spot I created with Kaye Schirrman won Facts Commercial of the year in 1987.
The theme “All creatures great and small” was inspired by the James Herriot Vet series which was inspired by the hymn.
It wa a pleasure to create a brand for the RSPCA
that endures to this day, and thanks to all the recent efforts, into the future.

It’s definitely up there with the Beatles remastered master collection. Definitely.
Still, love the ad. Just has a bit of beauty to it clever one liners or sucker punch gags at the end of the script don’t have.
Fuck I must be gettin’ old.
I am not as radical as 11.33, but back then I wondered what the fuss was about, now I am just astounded.
It is cute but no masterpiece.
I mean the ‘dissolves’ between each creature were so clunky and they gave it an award?
Hope the re-master means they have put it through Nuke to smooth that stuff out.
Thank you for reminding us what a genius you are.
🙂
Wow. Stop digging so deep. It touched many ppl to get them to donate to help fur, fins and feathers.
Why don’t we see this brilliant lovely ad anymore?
I hope you are all ashamed of yourself this ad slays
