Ray Black appears on ABC’s Collectors on Friday

Respected advertising creative, Ray Black, is appearing on the ABC show, Collectors on Friday night (July 9) to show his collection of extremely rare vintage Volkswagens.
The 1944 military models — a Kubelwagen and the amphibious Schwimmwagen (pictured) are two of only about a dozen left in the world. Also in the picture with Black is his 1959 Karmann Ghia coupe, which was once considered one of the ten most beautiful man-made designs.
Others in his collection are a 1944 VW Kubelwagen, five Beetles from the 1950s, a 1957 Kombi, which is the only existing example of the first series imported into Australia, and a 1971 NATO Kubelwagen.

The rare Volkswagens will no doubt be quite interesting.
What will be absolutely riveting however, is how the hosts of Collectors are going to explain (or not) the mysterious disappearance of their erstwhile colleague, the allegedly naughty Andy Muirhead.

Karmann Ghia is still one of the ten most beautiful man-made designs.
The Karmann Ghia might be quite beautiful but it wouldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding.
i remember back in the late 80s having the option of buying a Karmann Ghia for $2000 or a Fiat X1/9 for $9000. I opted for the Fiat and have been kicking myself ever since.
I hope there’s a rather large stuffed elephant placed prominently in the set, 4:55.
