RaboDirect releases latest in series of ‘Steal back your dreams’ campaign via Whybin\TBWA Group
Whybin\TBWA Group has created a new TVC for its straight talking, online bank client, RaboDirect.
Directed by Fiona McGee and produced by Goodoil Films, the third installment of the multi-award winning ʻSteal back your dreamsʼ campaign, sees the ʻGreedy Bankerʼ revelling in your dream holiday – the setting chosen after research from RFi revealed that a holiday is the main savings goal for most Australians.
Simon Westaway, of Underbelly fame, has once again been cast in the role of the greedy banker, who represents the Big 4 banks we all love to hate. A witty, stand-out character in a loud and cluttered category, the greedy banker has successfully seen RaboDirectʼs awareness, consideration and
ledger steadily increase over the past two years since the ad first launched on air.
Says Dan Lacaze, group head at Whybin\TBWA Group: “This campaign has been incredibly successfully for RaboDirect, winning a Gold Effie last year and being short listed again this year. It made complete sense for us to continue with the Greedy Banker.”
RaboDirect and Whybin\TBWA Group are both confident these new additions to the creative suite will build on this equity further in year three.
Says Renee Amor, RaboDirectʼs recently appointed head of marketing: “These ads are a lot of fun but at the core of each one is a message that we feel very strongly about. We want Aussies to make wise choices about their savings and to realise that not all savings products are created equal.
“Australian savers are currently losing out on billions in lost interest by leaving their money laying idle in low interest bearing accounts. And the major banks benefit the most from this.”
The new 30″ and 15″ spots, shot in Tweed Head, launched on Sunday 24th June supported by print and online activity.

The first one was really good. This not.
Nice to see a bank not take itself so seriously
I thought first one was dodgy too. Novel, but not really good advertising. To be honest, after one watch, I think that they were saying that they had a really low interest rate, which is a good proposition.
Advertising isn’t about making a conundrum around the proposition, it’s about expressing clearly, undeniably and memorably.
the first one was better.
This may be good in the eyes of some, personally I find it really weird just like a lot this agencies work. Not my cup of TEA really.
Not great, hasn’t moved it on and at the end of the day their rate is doesn’t live up to it.
The first one was beautifully produced.
The second one falls down horribly.
“I’m digesting your crustaceans” is the best line in TV advertising so far this year.
Was it the same team that did the original spot? Creative heads are mentioned but the art director and copywriter are conspicuously absent…
From what I understand the results are good so why change?
Would be interesting to know who their target market it is … clearly not the negative nelly’s above! Maybe it’s me since I just opened an account
