Hungry Jack’s launches national meal deal with leading Australian group buying site Scoopon
In a move to bring a more social element to its brand, fast food giant Hungry Jack’s, has partnered with Australia’s leading group buying site Scoopon, to run an exclusive national discounted meal deal.
The deal, which runs today (Tuesday 13 March), will see Scoopon promote to its two million national subscribers a $2 Whopper and fries meal deal. This is the first time a major fast food outlet has partnered with a group-buying site in Australia and represents a new direction for the sector as well as major brands, who are looking for new and innovative ways to reach a more social and price aware consumer and bring traffic back in store.
Last year online group sites generated $498.4 million in sales in Australia and are forecast to achieve more than $1 billion in sales in 2015, according to technology analysts Telsyte.
Generally group-buying sites offer deals on local goods and services, however national deals provide an opportunity to reach a much broader audience and attract new
subscribers.
For Hungry Jack’s, it also helps their brand become more social, connecting them to Scoopon’s significant subscriber base of highly engaged and social media savvy members.
Jon Beros, general manager of sales at Scoopon welcomes the addition of yet another major brand to the site’s supplier base and says that national deals and partnering with major and trusted brands will be a key focus for the site in 2012.
Says Beros: “For us it’s all about the deal and bringing unique experiences and exciting offers to our members. Building partnerships with major brands and being able to craft unique offers which meet both their campaign objectives and our customers’ appetite for quality experiences, will be pivotal to achieving this aim.”
Over the last year Hungry Jack’s has been active in the online space, with the company running special vouchering promotions to its 190,000+ Facebook fans.
Says Joe O’Keefe Jr., digital and social media manager at Hungry Jack’s: “Our Facebook promotions have been very successful, demonstrating high redemption rates and positive customer feedback. Because of the successful results from previous online activity, we’ve extended our strategy to reach the group-buying marketplace. We’re excited about our partnership with Scoopon, and our combined efforts will result in the largest daily deal offer for any fast food company in Australia.”
“Scoopon appeared to be the most viable group-buying company for us, considering their brand is recognised as one of the most established within the Australian e-commerce market. The deal provides us with the opportunity to reach over two million potential customers and helps us to deliver our objectives in an efficient and cost effective manner,”
O’Keefe adds.
The Scoopon Hungry Jack’s meal deal goes live at noon today Tuesday 13 March. Scoopons are valid from 15 March 2012 to 8 May 2012 and is available nationally from over 300 Hungry Jack’s restaurants around the country.

I think this whole bargain hunting thing has gone mad. I know consumers are hurting out there, but do you really need a deal on a burger and fries? What do they cost normally? Three bucks?
Does nobody censor this shit?
Get back to the below-the-line cave with you! This is not advertising!
You two must feel like dicks. It’s the highest selling group buying sale ever on Scoopon. Our job is to sell. They sold 500,000 in a day!
Well done guys. Job done. Now do it again!
what good is a voucher with a date on it if you don’t honor it you would have more credibility if you said first 600,000 then we would understand and not think you are offering a claytons voucher you a voucher that is not voucher ask jack he knows what a claytons cola was in the 1980’s
