David Colin makes directorial debut with Film Construction on thought provoking spots for Voiceless, the animal protection institute

David Colin.jpgDavid Colin makes his Film Construction directorial debut with the new campaign, ‘Factory Farming: the truth is hard to swallow’; launched today in conjunction with, Voiceless, the Animal Protection Institute.

animal save.jpgTwo thought provoking tv commercials will be screened immediately on free to air television as community service announcements. They’re focused on the plight of factory farmed animals, speaking directly to the consumer, the restaurant diner and the grocery shopper.  

Nominated for last year’s Cannes Young Director Award, director Colin’s style fits perfectly with the creative concept of Voiceless, with the use of subtle slow motion, mixed with stock footage of real factory farmed pigs; highly stressed and living in cages no larger than their bodies.

Says Colin: “I wanted the two spots to be really emotive, stylized but full of heart and soul. Something that appeals to the masses and we can all relate to as human beings.It is rare to get the opportunity to make television commercials that have a message that is so important and it’s been a privilege for me to be involved.”

Distinguished actor, Hugo Weaving, an ambassador for Voiceless, also lends his narration to the campaign. Says Weaving: “This year 10 billion animals worldwide and 500 million in Australia will suffer lives of pain and distress in factory farms. If I treated a dog the way pigs and chickens are treated on these farms, I’d likely be prosecuted.”
