POSCA unleashes the power of creativity in kids in new interactive art project ‘Art over everything’ via Sunday Gravy and The Glue Society

Launched in the 80’s, POSCA paint pens and markers have been enabling generations of artists for over 30 years. Through the ‘Art over everything’ project, POSCA is helping the next generation of artists recognise the importance of art and creativity. In collaboration with The Glue Society, Sunday Gravy created an interactive art project that broke hundreds of kids out of the classroom and set them loose on an impossibly white school bus, scattered with white dipped objects and relics that symbolize the current school curriculum. Armed with POSCA pens, the school kids transformed the bus into a vibrant work of art.

In an interview with Channel 7 Sunrise, Educational Psychologist Nicola Hogan commented on the project: “Watching their interactions and listening to their reflections highlighted what we know about the impact of engaging in playful, creative activities and how they foster a sense of ownership, joy, and intrinsic motivation.

Of course, this doesn’t apply only to kids! As Arnold Bakker‘s research around Playful Work Design (PWD) highlights, when adults incorporate PWD into their tasks, they experience greater job satisfaction, increased intrinsic motivation, and enhanced creativity and innovation.

Whether in schools or workplaces, creativity and play are important. Let’s keep advocating for spaces that allow minds—young and old—to color outside the lines!”

Says Sean Sowerby, head of PR at Sunday Gravy: “It’s a common misconception that art isn’t as important as the other traditional subjects. Academic success is often focused on Maths, English and Science which is why we wanted to show the importance of art and creativity.”

Similarly, Ashbury Public School relieving Principal Karen Morris agrees that the pursuit of creating art can help develop life skills, because “what we see are those skills being nurtured, like critical thinking, problem solving, (and) emotional intelligence.

“So, all of those skills we are trying to nurture in our readers, our writers, our mathematicians, are really harnessed when they engage in visual arts.”

Renowned street artist and Posca Ambassador Mulga (Joel Moore), who has painted murals across the globe and teaches creative workshops, was on hand to lend some inspiration and expertise to the project.

“Everyone’s an artist until you stop making art, I think art is just as important as any other school subject.”
