International production and photography agency Sam I Am has announced the release of the short film ‘A Night To Remember’ directed by Benito Martin with production design by Jess Johnson.

The film is a result of Martin’s fascination with the directing space, creating worlds and stories that take us back in time, often with a quip of humour. He is especially drawn to the nostalgia and warm tones of the 70s, which are evident in much of his work.

Sam I Am founder Samantha Simpson says, “Essential creativity has a lifeblood of its own. Benito’s vision always delights and charms me. As it expands into the directorial space, that vision multiplies in its capacity to share humour and story. A Night to Remember is a perfect example of how a beautiful idea comes to life when perfectly seen and teamed.”

Since joining Sam I Am in 2017, Martin’s photography presence has dominated the advertising industry, with a particular focus on the food and beverage and lifestyle space. He continues to inspire and excite as he lends his vision and talent to the motion space as director.

Martin says “I had fun creating this food focussed, hyper-stylised world, drawing on my experience and love of working with food. I’ve always had the idea kicking around in the back of my mind. I’m excited by playful films with quirky twists that don’t take themselves too seriously.

“I love creating stylised and nostalgic worlds. I was influenced by Wes Anderson’s use of set design and single-axis camera moves. And in this world, I found directing the motion so enjoyable. It takes what I love about photography and adds the element of time… the idea of watching a story unfold and evolve.

“I was blown away by Jess’ beautiful set design and Ismat’s way with food, how they both seamlessly saw what I saw. Also, there is Stella Morison’s amazing wardrobe, Max Gesbach’s beautiful lighting, and Sean Ryan’s work behind the camera. I really couldn’t have imagined such a polished, finished product without all of these talented people!”

Sam I Am senior producer Lucy Whirledge says “What a work of art! This film showcases the stunning talent and dedication of the entire team. Pulling this team together was so easy because the idea was so good. Every single person we asked jumped at the chance to work on this, and they all brought their unique skills that truly shine in the final film. Collaborations like this make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you, Benito, for coming up with such a fun idea, and thank you to everyone who played a part. Enjoy!”
