Momentum builds with Jon Kelly
Australian below-the-line marketing agency, Momentum Worldwide, has hired Jon Kelly as associate creative director and Katrina Mercer as a senior art director. Kelly was previously the Deputy Creative Director for iris Sydney for three years and prior to that was a senior creative at iris London. He brings a wealth of experience across ATL, DM, Digital, Mobile, Experiential and Retail. While at iris Jon was instrumental in the agency winning an ADMA, an Asian Effie and named Mid-Sized Network of the Year.
“Our creative offering is growing fast to meet our ambition and to deliver the kind of daring ideas that get the world talking. We’re putting together a creative team that thinks across all of our specialist channels, and in partnership with our clients, see us deliver on our promise,” said Phil Watson, Creative Director, Momentum Worldwide Australia. “Jon is an instrumental part of this new way forward and we’re lucky to have him.”
Kelly’s portfolio of experience includes working with some of the biggest brands in the world including Sony, Sony Ericsson, adidas and Shell. On his new role he said: “I arrived in Sydney to start the iris office from scratch and in three years we grew from two people and one client to more than 45 people and six clients. I learned a lot and had a great time but now it’s time for a fresh challenge. The opportunities at Momentum are fantastic, the client list is amazing and the creative talent is off the charts – what more could you ask for?”
Prior to joining Momentum Mercer held multiple creative positions across a five-year period at M&C Saatchi, most recently as an art director. She’s won a number of awards for her personal film projects including the Grand Prize Winner of the international Young Creatives competition hosted by the London International Advertising Awards.
“Kat brings an entire new dimension to Momentum’s creative department, an integrated thinker that will definitely be a major influencer of our create work to a whole new level, said Gus Guthrie, Managing Director, Momentum Worldwide Australia. “Bringing in two top talents like Jon and Kate – who are comfortable in any medium – will further bolster our ability to deliver big ideas for our clients.”
The Momentum Creative Department has doubled in size over the past six months, now nine members strong with further expansion to come. Today’s announcement comes on the heels of the recent restructuring of the company’s Design and Production Division which is also having its own impressive growth, adding at least one team member every month for the past six months.

Hey JK, I didn’t even know you were in the industry, let alone a CD. Maybe we should talk to each other in midfield occasionally!
