MIK Studio director Roderick Gadaev leads Carbiz campaign with Cortnee Vine via Five By Five Global
In partnership with Five By Five Global, Carbiz has launched a national campaign ‘Carbiz Keeps Cortnee Vine Moving’, showcasing the speed of Carbiz’ accident replacement vehicle service, keeping Aussies on the road when they need it most. Director Roderick Gadaev and the MIK team bring the spot to life amidst the Olympic hype of 2024.
The campaign is the first major initiative for Carbiz, launching across broadcast, social, digital and billboard.
Carbiz sponsors world class Australian athletes, amongst which, Vine stood out. Carbiz initially recruited Gadaev to the project and from there built the campaign in collaboration with MiK Studio and Five by Five Global.
Says Gadaev: “Building a campaign from the ground up is traditionally not in the director’s handbook, however it’s a welcome effort as that allows for the boots-on-ground creatives to directly influence the end product and achieve a more visually coherent piece.”
Says Ty Linegar, executive producer, MIK Studio: “We always love working with director Roderick Gadaev. He has an incredibly unique style and attention to detail that I’m sure will make him a true force in the industry. Our production team had such a great experience working with the incredible teams at Carbiz and Five By Five Global and we look forward to continuing to build these relationships with great work in the future.”
The spot experiments with fourth wall engagement direct to viewer as well as the use of motion-control arm technology that has been popularised in recent narrative and commercial industries.
Says Gadaev: “The team at D2 Motion are wizards as far as I’m concerned, some incredible ingenuity to be able to customise the camera motion to the complexity that we need it in real time. On this shoot, the timings were slim and precise, and the arm elevated our work ten-fold.”
The spot takes a comedic angle on Vine’s morning routine, juggling soccer training with making breakfast. It’s Carbiz that saves the day by already having solved her vehicle transport concerns following her not-at-fault accident. Vinee shows off her natural charisma, enjoying playful banter with the voice over as she speeds through her day.
Says Matt Alchin, client director, Five by Five Global: “Getting really focused on establishing what we want drivers to do – call Carbiz first – was the key to nailing this brief.”
Carbiz aligns its values of speed, dedicated service and reliability with Vine’s unwavering work ethic and easy going spirit.
The campaign’s strategic timing both precedes and follows the 2024 Paris Olympics, in which Vine and her Matilda teammates represented Australia internationally. Australia brought home 52 medals in total, 17 of which were gold, placing Australia 4th on the international stage. Vine’s social media grew exponentially during that time period.
Says David Butcher, COO, Carbiz: “The campaign has and continues to achieve impressive results. In preparation, Roderick, MIK and Five by Five created the platform for the day. On set, the combination of Roderick and MiK was a pleasure to be a part of. The combination of strategy and execution was beyond impressive.”
By encouraging Australians to call Carbiz first after a not-at-fault accident, Carbiz aims to showcase its dedication to keeping customers on the road. Its multi-award-winning services are offered at no cost to customers, with the fees being covered by the insurers of the at-fault parties. Having already experienced significant growth in recent years, Carbiz is focused on continuing its upward trajectory, expanding beyond its current 13+ branches nationwide, and assisting thousands more Australians.
