Melbourne kicks back into gear at the MADC Creative Showcase; ‘Best in Show’ Awards go to CHEP Network, Clemenger BBDO and Good Oil
Over 500 creative Melbournians happily turned off their webcams and made their way to The Forum on Friday night to celebrate the creative successes of the year(s) past, achieved amidst the world’s longest lockdown.
The sellout crowd was welcomed to the Forum by Uncle Jack Charles before watching the 30 minute showcase of Melbourne’s best work. After the screening, guests hit the dance floor and were entertained by some of Melbourne’s great musical talent.
Says Simon Thomas, co-president of MADC: “All work from the last two years deserves to be respected, it was tough to make anything, but the best really shone, and we’re proud to have helped hold it up some for rightful applause. The whole night felt like something Melbourne really needed. There was a genuinely great atmosphere from start to finish”.
Says Matt Lawson, co-president of MADC: “This seems like a platitude, but we mean it, we would love to thank everyone who came along. You put on a good show and made us really proud to be making work in Melbourne. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.”
The MADC, along with its star-studded jury, would like to congratulate the following key winners who were awarded on the night:
Best in Show – CHEP Network & Division, Flybuys, “Give a Flybuys”, directed by Sanjay de Silva.
Jury comments: “A beautifully crafted film that instantly transformed a boring, dusty brand into one people love and talk about. It’s why we all got into the ad business.”
*Judges felt that although Flybuys won the top prize for Film for CHEP Network (and you can only win in 1 category per MADC rules) they felt that the craft was so strong that they wanted to credit its production partner and director as well.
Best in Show – Clemenger BBDO, Victoria Bitter, “VB Solar Exchange”
Jury comments: “Such relevant tech. So on brand. In an industry sometimes guilty of faux-purpose and innovation led ideas, this was the opposite and that’s why it was awarded the top prize.”
Best in Show, Charity – Good Oil, “Boys Do Cry”, directed by Tom Campbell.
Jury comments: “A simple word change, faultlessly delivered by the director, that will actually help save lives.”
Emerging Creative Of the Year – Lauren Eddy, Bullfrog
Jury comments: “With two pieces in the show, and a coveted Best Of Show, Lauren is not emerging. She is well and truly here.”
