Melbourne City Mission launches new ‘Re-create to Educate’ project via Cubed Communications
Big ideas are worth the extra effort when the results can help change lives for the better as Cubed Communications has discovered on its first project for Melbourne City Mission.
For over 160 years Melbourne City Mission has provided help for disadvantaged and homeless people of all ages across Victoria. They recently established a Registered Training Organisation, The Melbourne Academy, to provide a unique network of learning spaces in select suburbs across Melbourne specifically to help 15-25 year-olds marginalised from the ‘traditional’ education system.
When Melbourne City Mission approached Cubed to develop a Regular Giving Program to fund the initiative, they came up with an idea so strong and involving it linked seamlessly with Melbourne Academy’s aim of providing a unique, hands-on and practical learning environment.
Cubed has developed a concept that goes beyond the traditional regular giving approach, and instead has created a platform that ensures regular donor engagement via a unique year-long program that will also fully engage and inspire students as well as donors.
‘Re-create to Educate’ lets students take work created by popular artists and redevelop them (with the guidance of the artist) to create their own unique product. The 4 session program for 2014 lets students ‘Re-mix’ a song, ‘Re-cut’ a short film, ‘Re-print’ an artwork and ‘Re-focus’ a photo shoot – each of the sessions are conducted by noted artists, and with their involvement, provide in-depth workshops to educate how the process is as important as outcome.
The first ‘Re-create to Educate’ session was all about ‘Re-mix’, and Cubed enlisted local up and coming hip-hop duo Diafrix to take the lead. The results were incredible, with the highly practical and involving sessions proving a real eye-opener for the students, who not only got to meet their heroes, but also learn from them.
To further help acquire regular donors, Cubed also produced DM, social media and eDM communications highlighting why a regular donor’s role in helping fund Melbourne Academy was vital to the ‘Re-create to Educate’ program.
To increase the propensity for uptake, Cubed proposed the idea that regular donors receive exclusive access to the tunes, artworks, video content and photography, available as limited-edition items as part of their long-term investment into the ‘Re-create to Educate’ initiative.
