When McDonald’s Queen Street, Auckland launched the Massive McMuffin Breakfast, they wanted a big idea, and that’s exactly what they got.
DDB New Zealand produced massive takeaway bags for people to carry or leave in and around the restaurant.

A big bag for a big breakfast!
Stop the fucking press.
This sits so very badly with their environmental claims:
‘When it comes to packaging and waste we are continuing to explore options to decrease our environmental impact. Our first priority is to reduce the resources and materials being used wherever possible.’
Page 32 of the ‘Environmental Responsibility’ doc here. Guess this only applies in theory.

Cool. It’ll match the Massive McHeartAttack.
It’ll double as a body bag.
Nothing screams obsesity more than this idea.
So that Supersize movie is old hat now?
And yet, it all seems a bit scammy, as if the bags only sat in place for as long as it took to take the photos. In the best tradition of so much ambient “advertising”, especially from NZ. Always helps if you can get a passerby to interact/observe in the photo, kind of validates that it really happened.
And as if just ‘one’ McDonalds store wanted the campaign.
Scam.
Jesus.
Doing a scam for one McDonalds.
And it’s not even a good one.
Ooh an oversized version of the client’s product as an ambient piece. You’re a dollar short and several days late.
Let’s move on people and do real work in 2011.
After New Zealanders have had a hard day in the city square drawing scam chalk drawing ads on the pavement, this is what they go and eat.
