M&C Saatchi’s Re and Sesión Tequila wins ‘Best in Class’ Platinum design award at SIP Awards

Sesión Tequila has been recognised as the ‘Best in Class’ for brand and packaging design at the SIP Awards off the back of a rebrand led by M&C Saatchi’s design agency Re.

Created by Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall, Sesión Tequila is a three year old, Australian owned, premium tequila brand. In November, M&C Saatchi, under the Saatchi Ventures umbrella, invested in the business.

Following the investment, M&C Saatchi agency Re was engaged to work with Hawkins and Wall to collaboratively revamp the Sesión brand to prepare it for global expansion in a booming, hyper-competitive category. The Sesión brand philosophy has been redefined to establish a unique position in-market. To communicate this change, a more premium visual identity was developed.

Re and the wider M&C Saatchi group are helping the brand with its international expansion into the United States. A holistic approach to launching the product is underway calling on M&C Saatchi’s expertise across brand, PR, social, online, retail and experiential activity to prime Sesión for success.

Sesión was celebrated by the SIP Awards, the only internationally recognised consumer-judged spirits awards providing a model of evaluation and an honest stage for feedback and recognition where top brands showcase their achievements.

There were more than 150 entrants in the brand and packaging design category which Sesión won unanimously. The brand was the only tequila to be recognised in the spirits category and received the highest possible rating from the judges.

Says Patrick Guerrera, CEO, Re: “Sesión is an exciting brand with great potential which we have been able to realise further through this new brand look and positioning. This award is a great honour and I expect it to be the first of many for the brand.”

Says Jake Wall, chairman and founder, Sesión: “Winning at the SIP awards is extra special because it is judged by a panel of unbiased consumers. We are proud of the Sesión team’s hard work – exciting times ahead for the business as we expand into the US.”

Says Jennifer Hawkins, founder, Sesión: “We are so humbled and unbelievably happy that Sesión has been recognised by the SIP awards. It makes all the work we’ve put in with our team worth it and we are waving the Aussie flag proudly that’s for sure.”
