M&C Saatchi creative Sam Holt exhibits paintings in one night only pop up show at the Janet Clayton Gallery in Sydney, tomorrow evening
Sam Holt, junior art director at M&C Saatchi (pictured), is kicking the year off with an exclusive one night only pop up show taking place at the Janet Clayton Gallery in Sydney on Wednesday, January 16th (tomorrow evening) at 6:30pm.
Holt has spent the past six months working nights and weekends in his Balmain studio to create one seriously solid collection of abstract paintings.
Since his last exhibition, Holt’s work has evolved, displaying more confident, expressive strokes and a more explorative use of colour.
Deep blues, forest greens, autumnal oranges, effervescent yellows and evocative reds showcase Holt’s innate talent for creating a connection with his audience through layered compositions of textured brushwork, drips and lines.
Says Holt of his practice: “I’m addicted to painting. I paint in bursts of intensity; it’s only after stepping back that I can evaluate the canvas.
“I’m concerned with how line, colour and texture interrelate, reworking layer upon layer I try to capture a mood or feeling that imbues the canvas with a personality.”
Combining oil paint, oil sticks, ink, charcoal and watercolour on large canvases, his motive and spontaneous form of expression is all part of the process.
Says Holt: “I never start a painting knowing more than the first stroke. I create almost by pure feeling, and often paint blind, leading to a more honest and organic stroke-process.”
Holt’s show is for one night only, but all works are available to view now online and at the gallery by appointment.
