David Whittle.jpgHighly regarded digital and direct marketing specialist David Whittle has been appointed managing director of M&C Saatchi Australia – transferring from M&C owned direct/digital agency Mark, effective immediately.

The 34 year-old will report into M&C Saatchi worldwide chairman Tom Dery and creative partner Tom McFarlane in the new role.

As managing director, Whittle will oversee the day-to-day operations of the agency that employs more than 400 staff in its Sydney and Melbourne offices servicing some of Australia’s most iconic brands.

He will work closely with M&C Saatchi’s executive creative director Ben Welsh in the new role with both continuing to operate within the seven-strong leadership group that was put into place earlier this year.

The appointment represents a watershed moment in M&C Saatchi’s 15-year history, says Dery: “David is the ideal person to propel us forward into a future that will be increasingly defined by seamless digital integration.

“His skills, knowledge and insight into disciplines at the cutting edge of marketing services are second to none. Moreover, David has an intrinsic understanding of ideas that still lie at the very core of this industry. He has a very well rounded knowledge base and skill set.”

Whittle also brings proven management and leadership capability to the table having launched Mark, one of Australia’s leading direct and digital agencies, three years ago. Since then he has led its successful growth and integration to permeate through the entire M&C Saatchi offering.

“David has been at the forefront of M&C Saatchi’s ongoing digital evolution both locally and internationally,” says Dery.

“We have watched him grow into this role with more than seven years at the agency and now believe he is ready to step up. It’s a great benefit that David knows our business so well and has been heavily involved in many of our clients’ businesses across the board.”

Whittle said he was honoured by the appointment and was looking forward to the challenge: “This opportunity represents a major progression in my career and I’m fortunate to be working with such an outstanding team.”
