M&C Saatchi + Collider take home coveted One Show Green Pencil for ‘The Plastic Forecast’; The Monkeys + Revolver win two Best of Discipline Awards for Sydney Opera House ‘Play It Safe’

M&C Saatchi Australia and Collider are celebrating the notable success of Minderoo Foundation’s The Plastic Forecast being awarded The One Show’s Green Pencil in New York; a prestigious award that recognises work that has made a measurable environmental impact.

Plastic production is set to triple by 2050. A forecast that must change. Now, plastic is being found in one of the last things many of us deem pure. Rain. To show the weight of the accelerating plastic production problem and call for an end to new fossil-fuel plastics, ‘The Plastic Forecast’ was created.

Launched in Paris for the UN’s plastic talks, The Plastic Forecast hijacked major French news networks, allowing them to include the first ever plastic weather metric in their daily weather reports, throughout the entire week.

 


The new forecast was debuted at the ChangeNow climate summit in Paris, by the French Minister for Ecology, and was supported with weather-activated outdoor activities around Paris, and digital placements on France’s biggest weather websites.

With more than 2350 media mentions, The Plastic Forecast reached more than 1.3 billion people in less than two weeks. Global publications such as Huffpost labelled the world-first weather report “a timely initiative”, and on World Environment Day, the UN itself co-signed the idea.

On the ground in Paris, the world’s first plastic treaty was drafted. Thirty countries are making a new commitment to reduce their production. A strong outcome, as treaty discussions continue towards the end of 2024.

The Plastic Forecast was adapted to run in Ottawa for the INC-4 negotiations, with all eyes on INC-5 in South Korea, late November.

The One Show’s Green Pencil has previously been awarded to world-class ideas such as AMV BBDO’s ‘The Trash Isles’ in 2018, NORD DDB’s ‘Vehicle of Change’ in 2023, and Saatchi and Saatchi’s ‘#TURNTOCOLD’ in 2022.

The Monkeys, part of Accenture Song also had a huge night at The One Show, scoring the Best of Branded Entertainment Discipline Award for Sydney Opera House ‘Play It Safe’ created with Revolver + Somesuch, MassiveMusic and ARC EDIT. Revolver + Somesuch was awarded Best of Moving Image Craft & Production Award for Sydney Opera House ‘Play It Safe’ with The Monkeys, MassiveMusic and ARC EDIT.


Marcel Paris picked up the prestigious Best of Show and a pair of Best of Discipline wins at The One Show 2024. Best of Show went to “WoMen’s Football” for Orange by Marcel Paris, working with Les Artisans du Film Paris and Prodigious Paris.  The work also had Best of Discipline wins in Film & Video and Interactive, Online & Mobile.  Overall, the entry was awarded 10 Gold Pencils, three Silver, three Bronze, and six Merits.  

Best of Non-Profit went to “Banned Book Club” by FCB Chicago with 456 Studios Chicago on behalf of Digital Public Library of America.

The One Show 2024 Special Awards

There were two winners of The One Show 2024 Penta Pencil, awarded to the agency and brand who together have created outstanding creative work for the last five years: McCann and Microsoft, and Rethink and Kraft Heinz Toronto.

A pair of entries received The One Show 2024 Fusion Pencil, the industry’s first global award to recognize great work that best incorporates DEI principles and underrepresented groups in both the creative content of the work and the team that made it: 

The One Show 2024 Green Pencils, recognizing the most environmentally conscious creative work for the year, was awarded to:

The One Show 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Pencil, created in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Partnerships and nonprofit PVBLIC Foundation to reward agencies and brands for work that betters the world and contributes to securing a sustainable future for all, went to:

The One Show 2024 Pencil and Merit winners were announced yesterday.  FCB New York led the world in Gold Pencils with 14, including 13 with 456 Studios New York for “Dreamcaster” on behalf of AB InBev, Michelob ULTRA.

A total of 20,038 pieces from 65 countries were entered in The One Show 2024.  Agencies, studios, brands, production companies and designers in 50 countries were awarded 184 Gold Pencils, 206 Silver, 280 Bronze, and 1,120 Merits.
