KFC encourages Aussies to ‘put a wing on it’ with new KFC Wedding Service launch via Ogilvy Sydney
Fried chicken fanatics – KFC is giving Australia the chance to ‘put a wing on it’ as the first couple to get hitched under its brand-new wedding service via Ogilvy Sydney.
Cheeky KFC wedding print ads that you certainly wouldn’t expect to find in the likes of Vogue and Harper’s BAZAAR popped up in the latest edition of the mags announcing the new venture, showing an elegant bride tucking into a bucket of the Colonel’s finest.
Now, KFC fans all over Australia can officially head to the website https://www.kfc.com.au/weddings and lodge an application form telling us in 200 words or less why you want the ultimate KFC Wedding. For those loved up couples ready to take the plunge, the Colonel suggests you apply fast as there’s only six weddings available. Winners will be judged on their originality, creative merit and independent expression shared in the entry.
The KFC wedding calendar will be filled right through from October 2019 to May 2020 with these applications so KFC is urging everyone who’s interested to get stuck into the application faster than a bucket of delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Along with getting to smash freshly cooked Kentucky Fried Chicken courtesy of the KFC Food Truck, the happy couple will also get a KFC themed celebrant to make it all official, a KFC photo booth to capture those happy memories, custom KFC buckets and musical entertainment to get the first dance kicked off in true style.
As with its restaurants, everyone has a seat at the wedding table, with every person in Australia ready to tie the knot invited to apply – regardless of gender, sexual preference, religion or age… as long as you’re over 18 of course.
Nikki Lawson, managing director at KFC Australia: “KFC is all about living your best life and we were flattered that so many of our fans are showing that Aussie larrikin spirit by asking us to be a part of their big day.
“Over the years we’ve seen some amazing Facebook comments and have heard of some incredible proposals from fans taking place in our restaurants in Australia and around the world. Seeing these we thought bucket, let’s create a KFC Wedding service! We think it’s important that this isn’t just a one-off affair and that as many of our fans have the chance to get a KFC Wedding – so we’re making this available for eight months as a genuine service for anyone living in Australia.”
Says Gavin McLeod, ECD, Ogilvy Sydney: “KFC Weddings is further proof of how much Australians love KFC. We noticed that people were already stopping in at KFC stores on their wedding day and saw the opportunity to launch a KFC Wedding service. Not every client would be brave enough to back something so unexpected, but KFC is not every client!”

I love when a pun gets made into an idea.
Don’t swallow the ring when you lick it off those greasy fingers.
Great work Ogilvy.
Great idea, poor execution.
They should have found a mad KFC fan and catered their wedding. Turned it into a real story instead of a promo
See your point, but respectfully disagree. I like that it’s a promo open to more people, rather than a one off stunt.

I genuinely cannot think of a more depressing sentence than ‘wedding catering by KFC’. Whoever came up with this idea is literally insane.
On top of that, the execution sucks.
So, 0 for 2.
McDonald’s Hong Kong been doing this for years.

kinda like the drumstick corsage idea from the states a few years back – just without the charm, wit or originality.
Just…what – I agree, but this will go nuts for them. They’ll be 6000 applications (if not more)

I can’t imagine anyone having a KFC wedding is going to look like the talent in these ads…
Nice work Gav. This will be very successful.
What most dismays me about this is that KFC fans aren’t just getting married but are therefore more likely to breed. If they were handing out free sterilisations with a bucket of KFC as the sweetener, well then… at least that’s doing the world a favour.
