John Lewis launches highly-anticipated 2022 Christmas film ‘The Beginner’ via adam&eveDDB
UK retailer John Lewis has launched its highly-anticipated 2022 Christmas campaign by adam&eveDDB, London and produced by Biscuit Filmworks UK.
This year’s Christmas ad ‘The Beginner’ tells the story of a big-hearted man who takes up a certain new hobby a little later in life than you’d expect.
Although he struggles initially, he never gives up – despite the bumps and scrapes. And, after a few weeks, he begins to get the hang of it.
But then, with a ring of the doorbell, it becomes clear what – or who – all his efforts have been for. Because it’s what we do that matters most.
The soundtrack for the spot is a cover of Blink-182’s “All the Small Things,” performed by Mike Geier.

Also yes to blink cover.
I’m not crying your crying
It’s a great cause, but if they say it wasn’t ‘inspired’ by this, they’re lying…

This is what happens when something has been very good for many many years and then people just says its good because everyone says its good.
I mean, it’s a good ad I suppose. Nice sentiment etc. But it’s not amazing as everyone is making out is it.
The penguin one – now that was good!
No director credit anywhere?
@hype
100% agree. Bring back Monty!
This smells like ‘we ran out of emotive Christmas ideas, so we have shoehorned in an emotive charity idea this year’.
But who directed it?
Lovely stuff. It says Steve Rodgers right there in the subhead.
another ad referenced with accusation of taking the idea…check
because that Doc Morris advert is the first time that story has ever been told
