Hype Republic teams up with Red Bull for Daniel Ricciardo’s Great Aussie Road-Trip

In its most ambitious project yet, Gold Coast-based production company Hype Republic recently joined forces with the Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team to deliver an ocker action adventure with some of Red Bull Motorsports’ top athletes.

Marking Australian Formula 1 Driver Daniel Ricciardo’s return to the Oracle Red Bull Racing fold, the video follows the team’s new reserve driver as he embarks on a high-octane adventure across his home country. Ricciardo’s mission? To learn from Australia’s biggest motorsports stars, his team has an edge on its competitors at the upcoming Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Melbourne.

In true Red Bull fashion, the video pushes the envelope with some seemingly impossible stunts involving the RB7 Formula 1 car, including a show-down with a chopper, a race against an aerobatic plane, tackling an off-road obstacle course and a head-to-head battle with a V8 Supercar around Bathurst’s Mount Panorama circuit.

Hype Republic’s director and executive producer Allan Hardy says the ambitious project was a personal dream come true, despite the unique challenges the team encountered along the way: “A Formula 1 car is only designed to be driven on FIA-approved circuits and requires its own dedicated engineering team and pit crew. They’re definitely not designed to be driven in the harsh Australian conditions and rough terrain we pushed it through.

“To overcome the tracking challenges over the rough terrain, we used a Can-Am Maverick X3 MAX equipped with the RED V-Raptor, and this proved to be a real key to capturing the highest quality footage. Mack Trucks provided logistical support throughout the production and even had a cameo in the opening scene.”

Some of Australia’s most well-known motorsports figureheads feature in the video alongside Ricciardo, including desert-racing star Daniel “Chucky” Sanders, two-time Dakar Rally champion Toby Price, aerobatic pilot Matt Hall and Supercars champions Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup.

Hype Republic producer Dayna Yates says being part of the team entrusted with creating and delivering such a progressive, aspirational project is one of the highlights of her career: “It was a real honour to work with Daniel and the whole Oracle Red Bull Racing team and to bring the insane vision of this video to life. Getting let loose with the team’s RB7 Formula 1 car to create the ultimate Australian adventure was an absolute monster of a project, but one that will definitely go on my personal highlights’ reel!”

Hype Republic began the groundwork with Red Bull Australia early last year and handled the project from end to end, including the creative, production, post-production and delivery phases.

Video transitions between locations were also enhanced with uniquely Australian VFX design.

Upon its release, the edit went viral, achieving 1 million views and becoming the number-one trending video on YouTube on its first day.
