Hungry Jack’s launches brand new ‘Whopper for Prime Minister’ campaign via Channel T
Much-loved Australian burger, Whopper, long known as the burger of the people, has announced the launch of its #WhopperForPM campaign via Channel T.
Says Pete Cerny, executive creative director, Channel T: “We were tasked to make Whopper relevant again, and nothing is more relevant than the 2016 Election. And it’s about time Australia had the chance to vote in Australia’s first ever burger Prime Minister.”
Running with a campaign slogan of ‘It’s time for better’, Whopper aims to build an Australia where all citizens can enjoy better tasting burgers and where the country can access all the Whoppers they want and deserve.
Says Scott Baird, chief marketing officer at Hungry Jack’s: “Hungry Jack’s is known for making better burgers. And we see this campaign as a great way to bring Whopper’s quality and taste to the people in a fun and engaging way.”
The campaign is now in full swing at 400 plus Hungry Jack’s restaurants Australia-wide. Voting online at www.WhopperForPM.com.au is expected to be brisk, with voters eagerly seeking the rewards on offer.
The campaign will air nationally on television, press, online and heavily in social media.

Where’s the idea?
this is just awful
yep. we made a poop.
This should be entered into every award show.
Mainly because I’m not judging this year and I like seeing those guys punked.
I thought Clems Sydney had the Hungry Jack’s account ?
‘Nothing is more relevant than the 2016 election.’ Relevant to your brand and the category how exactly?!
At first I thought this was a piss-take of the McWhopper campaign from NZ, but then I checked out both the Hungry Jacks site and ChannelT and realised it isn’t.
That makes it even better.
I especially love how if you’re bored enough to actually go to the HJ site and try to vote they won’t let you pick anything other than Whopper.
It’s genius.
And hats off to ChannelT for building a business based on convincing gullible clients that ‘conversation’ with brands is a viable model.
Congrats Channel T for taking more business off Clems – There’s definitely a reason why the Client is handing more business to you guys. Your work is fresh and entertaining. Clems on the other hand can’t keep a suit on their Hungry Jack’s team for more than 12 months.
Hi guys,
Sorry a lot of you don’t seem to like this ad.
I personally think that for a category like fast food it is quite refreshing to see something that is just fun and has the added bonus of topicality. Let’s face it, there’s not a lot of hard USP’s to put out there and the Whopper is a brand that is much loved by its audience. The role of advertising in this case was to simply create a bit of news/buzz/fun/awareness to remind people we’re out there.
We’re proud of it as a piece of work and certainly proud of the results so far. I’m hoping that when the annual prize for best Australian TV ad for burgers 2016 is presented that it will be one of the more memorable ads in that category.
But then again, I would, wouldn’t I?
E is on the money.
Clem’s Hungry Jack’s account service team have been unstable for a long time.
Junior suits resigning every 6 months, led by a Senior Account Director who recently resigned herself.
Say what you want about Channel T’s work, but at least they know how to provide good account service.
Er, call me old fashioned, but I saw this on TV the other night and actually praised the advertising gods for providing something fresh and different.
I think it is great for a product like a burger, which just needs a bit of personality and for the Hungry Jacks eaters out there, I’d say this would be bang on.
Fair enough it might not win awards but it’s one of the few ads I can remember that I saw on tv last week. I say well done to any agency, big or small, who tries to do something that’s different.
Channel T is exactly the same company as T-Garage. T-Garage will do social and non-social research and then recommend a ‘new style’ of socially led communications from their Channel T communications brand.
I have no idea why they are being so coy and not letting people know on their communications and website etc that they own both businesses. I bet they are letting their clients know!!
The Senior Account Director at Clems who recently left resigned because she was refused a promotion to Group Account Director…
Definitely should have been an onion gag.
@ S.B. – Correct. Hungry Jack’s Senior Account Director is now at Whybin TBWA.
Not sure who’s remaining on the Hungry Jack’s account service team at Clems.
Yes, this is pretty awful stuff, but there must at least be some slightly funny clips where the burger talks like a politician into the microphone – I mean, you already had the burger right there in situ.
Have I missed these?
We’ve all seen this technique before, but at least it would add something entertaining to an otherwise clueless campaign.
Then again, I don’t know why I even posted this – it still wouldn’t have saved the campaign.
Absolutely horrible.
Guys, defending your work by criticising the account managers of another agency doesn’t really work. You produced this stuff and chose to PR it… now deal with the industry’s response. For what it’s worth, this smacks very much of “give me a mcwhopper campaign”… just without any creative idea.
Not defending the work.
Simply saying the opportunity to do the work came from the revolving door at Clems – which equated to poor account service.
See you at all agency WIP tomorrow mate.
Stay classy.
Bloody hell, two agencies fighting here under the brave banner of anonymity. I think the video is funny- funnier if you hadn’t already been told what it was for.
Did anyone out there see the annoying new add from hungry jacks playing now on tv where that stupid woman sais Iv never tried hgs coffee before. I thought hungry jacks started with a j NOT a g it’s not hungry gacks it’s hungry JACKS honey !!! She’s just so bloody irritating and as for growth hormones they are added to everything. Get over it hungry jacks is yummy.
